Anyone can get mpox, which is why it’s important to know the signs and how to protect yourself.

As Folsom Street Fair and other large Bay Area events approach, the San Francisco Department of Public Health has issued a press release encouraging continued awareness of mpox. As of August 24, more than 70 mpox cases have been reported in San Francisco this year, including eight clade I mpox cases (which can be more severe).

Symptoms may start with flu-like symptoms such as fever, swollen lymph nodes or fatigue, followed by a rash that looks like pimples or blisters and can be painful. The two-dose mpox vaccine is strongly encouraged for people at risk and remains the best protection against infection.

Your breast milk helps protect your baby from getting sick. WIC offers practical tips and support to parents who want to keep breastfeeding when they return to work or school.

August is National Breastfeeding Month, a time to recognize the importance of supporting families throughout their feeding journeys.

At the July 28, 2026, Board of Supervisors meeting, the Solano County Board formally recognized this observance. The meeting featured remarks from WIC Regional Breastfeeding Liaison, Andrea Dimas and a testimonial from Melina Madrigal, a graduate of the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program, who shared her personal breastfeeding journey and the impact that support had on her experience.

The observance continues with the 9th Annual Donor Human Milk Drive & Celebration on August 6, 2026, at 2101 Courage Drive in Fairfield. Join us to celebrate breastfeeding families, connect with local resources, and learn how you can support or donate human milk.

Donated human milk helps save the lives of vulnerable infants. If you're able, consider becoming a donor or helping spread the word about the lifelong benefits of breastfeeding for both babies and parents.

August is the start of National Breastfeeding Month. WIC helps families feed their babies with support they can count on. WIC serves participants and their families from many cultures and communities. Parents can get support from peer counselors and lactation experts. Throughout August and September, WIC celebrates the support that makes breastfeeding and chestfeeding possible.
