Camp Floyd State Park shares the history of Camp Floyd, The United States Army, early area pioneers, stagecoach travelers, and the pony express, historic Fairfield though events, programs, lectures fieldtrips, day camps and tours. While this is an open forum, we ask that all who contribute do so in a manner that is respectful of others.

Camp Floyd State Park is hosting History of Camp Floyd Day on Memorial Day May 25, 2026 . The event will allow visitors to experience camp life through exhibits and demonstrations. Visit the graves of soldiers who died in the service of our country. See artifacts from Camp Floyd from the time it was occupied (1858-1861) in our museum and tour the historic Stagecoach Inn which was in operation from 1858 to 1947. Come on out and join us for this family-friendly event. Watch firing demonstrations with a cannon and muskets. The events will be conducted 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Museum entrance fees of $5 per person or $15 per family (immediate family only) apply. Food will be available for purchase at Beefsteak’s Bistro. Camp Floyd State Park's History Camps are filling up fast.
Camp Floyd History Camps

Camp Floyd History Camps for kids are a fun-filled educational experience about how soldiers lived at Camp Floyd between 1858 – 1861, and how the Utah War served pre-Civil War objectives. Campers meet uniformed interpreters, play 19th-century games, drill, march and set up a soldier’s camp, fire an 1860s period firearm, make and take home soldier craft activities. Other activities include conducting a full-scale military exercise, and observing muskets and a cannon fired.

Participants will receive a History Camp t-shirt, replica kepi, replica rifle, canteen, haversack, wooden yo-yo, and more. Campers return home each day with furlough papers. These programs are for both boys and girls, 8 to 12 years of age. Each camp is limited to 30 participants and runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday the camp is from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM with the reenactment at 2:00 PM for the families. Reservations and a $150 camp fee is required.

Please provide a lunch each day for your child.

Please provide a letter for your child. We will need YOU, as the parent, to write your child a short letter. You should bring this to the commissary on the first day of camp. This letter will be delivered to your child by a Pony Express rider on the second day of the camp.

Youth Group/or Family Johnston’s Army Adventure Overnight Camp

Johnston’s Army Adventure Camp is designed for youth groups ages 11 and up but open to all youth groups and families and offers an authentic and unique hands-on adventure! Participants travel back in time to 1858 – 1861 and enter the world of a soldier with Johnston’s Army at Camp Floyd in the Utah Territory. New recruits are processed, mustered into the army and issued uniforms. As a new enlisted private, scouts will shoulder their musket, and march off to a new adventure! Leaving modern possessions behind, the call of bugles and officers’ commands will replace the daily routine of 21st-century life. The camp curriculum is based on the history of Johnston’s Army at Camp Floyd, Utah Territory, and can be used to complete the requirements for the Boy Scout American Heritage Merit Badge and the National Historic Trails Award. Camp fees are $30 per child/adult or $100 per family (nonrefundable), which includes all camp material, breakfast at Beefsteaks Bistro, and a Camp Floyd State Park patch. This two-day program includes a stay overnight with sleeping accommodations in period military tents. participants will need to provide their own sleeping gear. Each camp requires a minimum of 10 participants and will be cancelled if minimum is not met.

Water Water Water!
Needing a water source to survive Camp Floyd was established next to this stream that flows all year by the spring on the west side of Highway 73. The stream was diverted throughout the camp allowing Camp Floyd to survive. Remember the park is open 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Saturday.

Learn about the history of the sheep industry in Fairfield and the importance of the wool industry to Utah’s economy. Camp Floyd State Park is looking for service groups this spring or summer willing to tear out a field fence and replace it with a split rail fence at the Camp Floyd Cemetery area. Tools needed for the field fence tear out are pliers, gloves and equipment to pull out the fence posts (tractor, bobcat, chains etc.). Tools needed for the split rail install post hole augers, gloves, shovels, tamping bars etc. If interested or have questions about the project please email [email protected].

Egg Scramble

Join Camp Floyd State Park for its annual Egg Scramble on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 1:00 PM. This event is open to children 12 and younger. The lawn will be divided into age groups so your kiddo will have a great chance to grab some eggs with fun treats and surprises. Entrance to Camp Floyd State Park is $5 per person or $15 per family and participants will be required to have a wrist band. For more information please email [email protected].

Rules:

Scramblers are not allowed onto the lawn until the area is opened by park staff.

When the lawn area is opened, Scramblers must stay along the fence until the park staff start the egg scramble. When the scramble begins Scramblers may collect as many eggs as they can until they are all claimed. Please be considerate of other Scramblers.

No parents allowed in the Scramble area. Parents may stand inside the fence line to watch. Scramblers in the 0-3 area may have one Parent help them navigate. Parents may not touch any of the eggs.

Some eggs will have numbers inside to be exchanged for prizes that don’t fit in an egg.

Camp Floyd State Park will not be providing baskets or bags to hold your eggs, so make sure to bring your own!
