BREAKING: The U.S. House of Representatives just passed major gun safety legislation for the first time in more than two decades—the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, which will require background checks on ALL gun sales in America. This historic vote to update background checks is proof positive that we have loosened the gun lobby’s grip on Congress.

Just after the horrific mass shooting at Sandy Hook School, Congress failed to pass any major common-sense gun safety legislation. In the face of this devastating loss, our volunteers fought even harder and took the fight for stronger gun laws to the states where we have been winning.

Then, in 2018, our massive army of grassroots volunteers across the country mobilized to elect a Gun Sense Majority—who pledged to support safer gun laws—in the House of Representatives.

Gun violence prevention is no longer a third rail of American politics. In fact, it’s an issue candidates place at the top of their campaign platforms. And today’s vote is even more proof that lawmakers are listening to the American people on this issue.

We cannot thank our volunteers—moms, dads, grandparents, gun violence survivors, students, and Americans from all walks of life—enough for their persistence, passion and determination to drive real change on gun violence in America. This progress is, in large part, due to your tireless work.

Make no mistake: There is a tough road ahead, but we’ve won tough fights before. We will not stop until meaningful gun safety legislation is enacted at the federal level.
