REMINDER:

Starting today (6/8/26), GUARANTEED FUNDS (cash, credit/debit card or cashier's check) are the only accepted forms of payment for property taxes.
This will remain in effect until the completion of the tax sale next week.

***JOB OPENING***
The Jefferson County Courthouse has an opening for a Custodian-Maintenance position.
General hours are 7:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday.
Cleaning, general maintenance, lawn care, snow removal and other assigned tasks. Prior mechanical, electrical and/or plumbing experience a plus.
Please apply by filing a resume with cover letter or completing a job application with the Jefferson County Auditor's office. Applications are also available at www.jeffersoncountyiowa.gov. A more detailed job description is available in the Auditor's office.
Applications will be accepted until 4:00pm on May 15th with a projected hire date to be determined.

This morning, I got to talk with the students in Mrs. Van Pelt's Beyond High School class about what to expect when buying a car, including the documents they need to transfer the title to the vehicle and where to spot potential fraud.
There were a bunch of great questions and class participation. Thank you Mrs. Van Pelt for inviting me and (hopefully) making their first car buying experience easier.

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO PAY YOUR PROPERTY TAXES WITHOUT PENALTY!!!

***Reminder - there is a secure silver lockbox outside the north entrance to the courthouse where payments can be dropped off after hours tonight. These payments will be be collected and processed tomorrow morning with NO PENALTY ASSESSED.
