When Ayndriea Abbott and her family moved into their Habitat home in Vallejo, it opened the door to so much more than homeownership. đź’™ From building deep community connections to helping lead local art projects and youth events, the Abbott-Ponds family has truly flourished since becoming Habitat homeowners.

On May 13, the Governor is expected to release his revised budget proposal, launching the final round of negotiations over the 2026–27 State Budget.

There is encouraging momentum. The Senate’s recently released budget framework included CalHome as a priority program for funding. Now, we need one more strong push to make sure the Governor and Legislature hear from Californians who believe affordable homeownership must be part of the state’s housing solution.

CalHome is California’s only state program dedicated to the production and preservation of affordable homes for ownership. Without renewed funding, shovel-ready affordable homeownership projects across the state could stall.

Take one minute today to urge state leaders to include $500 million for CalHome in the final budget. Link in Bio.

This week, we’re celebrating National Volunteer Week (April 19–25) and the incredible individuals who make our work possible. 💙

More than 30 amazing volunteers showed up this week to give their time—whether in the office, on our committees, on the construction site, or at the ReStore—and we made sure to show our appreciation with goody bags, donuts, treats, and thank you cards.

As Felicia Desboine, our Community Outreach Coordinator, shared so perfectly: “Because of you, we are able to do more than build houses—we are building hope, opportunity, and a stronger future for all. Thank you for your continued commitment and for being such an essential part of our mission.”

We are so grateful for each and every one of our volunteers. Wishing you a wonderful Volunteer Week—and thank you for all you do, this week and every week!

At a glance, you might never guess that Marlyn Menzies is 80 years old. A familiar and much-loved presence at the Solano-Napa Habitat ReStore, Marlyn has been generously volunteering her time for more than seven years.

Originally from the southern Philippines, Marlyn immigrated to the United States with her family 63 years ago and went on to build an impressive 30-year career as a Realtor. Although she officially retired in 2016, her passion for housing, people, and service never slowed down, and Habitat has been lucky to benefit from her experience and heart ever since.

At the ReStore, Marlyn’s decades of real estate and sales experience shine. She arrives early to ensure displays are clean, organized, and inviting, and she has a keen eye for staging furniture and home goods in ways that help customers envision them in their own homes. We are incredibly grateful to Marlyn for her commitment!

As we reflect on the close of 2025 and look ahead to the years beyond, Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity is focused not only on the homes we are building today, but on the long-term sustainability of our mission. One meaningful way supporters can help ensure Habitat’s impact continues for generations is through planned giving, also known as legacy giving.

Craig and Carole Paterson, long-time donors and devoted supporters of Solano-Napa Habitat, exemplify the heart behind this kind of giving. Several years ago, they made the decision to include Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity in their will. For them, the choice was simple. “We see this as a way to pay it forward,” Craig explained. “It’s about sending something valuable into the future and knowing that long after we’re gone, families will still be able to experience the security and dignity that comes with homeownership.”

“There is no place like home for the holidays!🎄I am so thankful for this opportunity God and Habitat for humanity gave me and my little family almost 4 years ago. It’s the comfort of a home, the gift of health, the stability, the laughter and the quiet moments that remind me how blessed life truly is. As a mother and a home owner I look forward to a new year filled with cozy mornings, creating memories in every corner and building a place where love and laughter always lives.”
