Scattered storms (40-60% chance) are expected to develop across portions of North Texas this afternoon as a weak cold front approaches the region but stalls out in Oklahoma. Coverage this afternoon will be much more isolated (20-30%) between I-20 and US-84 with locations generally along and south of US-84 remaining dry today. While most storms will only contain lightning, brief heavy rain and gusty winds, a couple damaging wind gusts can’t be ruled out north of along or north of the I-20 corridor. Isolated showers and storms (10-30%) may linger across portions of North Texas tonight before showers and storms (30-50% chance) re-develop across portions of North and Central Texas Friday afternoon.

FFWFWD��The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a��* Flash Flood Warning for...�Southern Freestone County in central Texas...��* Until 1045 AM CDT.��* At 740 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing�heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 3.5 inches of rain have�fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in�the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin�shortly.��HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.��SOURCE...Radar indicated.��IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,�highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor�drainage and low-lying areas.��* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...�Teague, Fairfield, Dew, Freestone, Lanely, Donie and Cotton Gin.��This includes Interstate 45 between mile markers 181 and 197.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

[Thursday 9/3, 5:45AM]: The remnants of Tropical Storm Edouard will bring additional chances for showers and storms today. Isolated flash flooding will be possible in Eastern Central Texas. As for any rain for the rest of us...? Not so lucky! Most of the area will remain warm and dry today.

Today has been very hot! Fire departments from Wortham, Teague, Dew and Mexia have been working a fire off of FM 1366. The fire departments have been working this fire for over the last 5 hours and mostly involves hay bales.

As a reminder Freestone County is still under a burn ban. This fire was started due to outdoor burning.

values up to 111 expected.

* WHERE...North and Central Texas.

* WHEN...Until 9 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
extreme heat and high humidity events.
Take extra precautions when outside by staying hydrated, wearing lightweight and loose fitting clothing, and limiting strenuous activities to the early morning or evening. Check up on relatives and neighbors. Never leave young children or pets in an enclosed vehicle, even for a short time, as temperatures can quickly rise to life-threatening levels. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk when outdoors, the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911 ASAP if you or someone you know is exhibiting signs of heat stroke. Extreme heat is dangerous, especially for those without reliable shelter. Limit time outdoors during the hottest time of the day, typically from 2 to 7 PM, rest in the shade when possible, and drink plenty of water. Locate nearby cooling centers through local resources or dial 2-1-1 in Texas.
