On Wednesday, officers encountered a family in need of assistance safely transporting their child. Determined to help, the officers went to Walmart to buy a car seat. When management at Walmart heard why our officers were in the store, they decided to donate a car seat to the family.

Thoughtful acts of kindness are one of the many reasons our community is a wonderful place to live, work, and visit. Thank you to our officers who chose to address the need and to our community partners at Walmart for their generosity without hesitation.

Last weekend was Wear Orange Weekend, a time to honor survivors of gun violence and raise awareness. Lt. Davis, Chief Pedroso, and Sgt. Dee joined members of the community at the Wear Orange event in Old Town Square on Sunday.

Thank you to the organizers and attendees for creating this opportunity to come together to honor gun violence victims, survivors, and their families and to work towards safer communities for everyone.

Whether you’re out and about for puppies or picnics, skating or swings, reading or running, our city parks are a great place to enjoy the summer. To keep our parks beautiful, safe, and welcoming for all of our neighbors, we ask that you:

🐩 Keep pets leashed. It's the law, it keeps them safe, and it ensures others are comfortable in shared park spaces. Use the dog park (11000 Berry St.) for off-leash time.
🕧 Remember that parks are open only from dawn to dusk.
🚯 Dispose of garbage and recycling in the bins or take it with you.
🚭 No smoking of any kind.
❌ Alcohol is prohibited.

Need a park? Find our parks directory here: https://www.fairfaxva.gov/Fun-Facilities/Parks/Parks-Directory.

And you can find the complete City of Fairfax Parks Rules and Regulations here: https://www.fairfaxva.gov/files/assets/city/v/1/parks-amp-rec/documents/2018-park-rules-ordinance-adopted-10918.pdf.

Remember, if you see any maintenance issues, you can use Fairfax City Resolve aka Ready 311 (at https://www.fairfaxva.gov/Services/Fairfax-City-Resolve or on the app) to report it to the city. And if you see unsafe or illegal behavior, you can call the police department's non-emergency line at 703-385-7924 (711 TTY); call 911 for emergencies.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our parks lovely places to gather and play! Let's have a great summer!

Last week, the CFPD responded to a local grocery where a mother had grown exasperated by her children's shenanigans and left them behind.

Shocking, we know, but geese don't understand modern civilization, especially automatic doors.

Thankfully, ACO Hunt was able to wrangle the two goslings and deliver them safely to a rehabber who placed them into the care of another mother goose.
