The City of Fairfax Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Master Fire Medic Joseph “Joe” Charley to Lieutenant.

Lt. Charley joined CFFD in 2006 and has served as a firefighter/paramedic, apparatus driver/operator, instructor, mentor, and Acting Lieutenant. He brings extensive experience in fire suppression, EMS, technical rescue, training, and special operations to his new role.

He is assigned to the Operations Division at Fire Station 33 on A Shift.
Please join us in congratulating Lieutenant Charley on this well-earned career milestone and wishing him continued success in his new leadership role.

On this 25th anniversary of 9/11, members of the City of Fairfax Fire and Police Departments joined community members to remember September 11, 2001, and honor the 2,977 people who lost their lives, including the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while helping others.

Together, we reflected on that day and the lives it forever changed.

We will never forget.

Eight City of Fairfax Fire Department firefighters and fire medics are wrapping up week one of two at the 15th Rescue Engine School, a specialized program focused on advanced vehicle extrication and man vs. machine rescue.

This week, students focused on the fundamentals of vehicle stabilization, learning how to use a variety of tools and techniques to safely stabilize vehicles in different positions and scenarios they may encounter on emergency calls.

Proper stabilization is a critical first step in vehicle extrication. Before a vehicle can be cut, moved, or dismantled, rescuers must first create a safe and stable environment for both the patient and the rescue team.

With week one complete, our members have established the foundation they’ll build on during next week’s hands-on extrication training.

We’re proud of their commitment to sharpening their skills and expanding their expertise. Staying ready to serve our community when it matters most.

You see us responding to calls, training, and serving our community. But there’s another side of fire department life that happens between the calls.

Welcome to 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, a new series where we’ll occasionally take you inside the firehouse for a look at the people, traditions, and everyday moments that make up life at the City of Fairfax Fire Department.

And what better way to kick things off than with a crew celebration?

Firefighters spend a lot of time with the members of their assigned shift. They run calls together, train together, share meals, and, over time, become more like family. So when one of your crew members changes shifts, it’s a little bittersweet.

Stations 30 (Fairfax Co.), 33, and 3 came together to celebrate Master Fire Medic Imran Salek’s last day with C-Shift. After several years with the crew, Imran is making the move to A-Shift, where he’ll join a new crew and continue serving our community.

We’ll miss having him on C-Shift, but we know A-Shift is gaining a great teammate. Good luck on A-Shift, Imran!
