The City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts was established in 1979 by the City Council to encourage, promote, and provide opportunity for artistic expression within the City. ing to continue the enrichment of the community through funding, information, encouragement, exhibits, education, and co-ordination. Information—marketing and publicity of upcoming arts events. Encouragement - funding to aid and assist emerging arts groups. Exhibits - provide opportunities for exhibition of works of art. Education - support programs designed to increase understanding and appreciation of the arts in City schools. Coordination - working with area arts organizations to open new avenues and venues for the arts in the city.

Celebrate freedom, culture, and community with us on Friday, June 19, from 6–9 p.m. at the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center. This free community event will feature live entertainment, vendors, children's activities, an opening ceremony, and opportunities to learn about the significance of Juneteenth and its lasting impact on our nation’s history.

THIS FRIDAY!! 📽️🎶🎺 Join us for the last ArtScreen of the season—Jazz on a Summer's Day. A 1959 concert film set at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival in Newport, RI. With a visual mix of the city, the audience, and the artists onstage, it also features scenes of the 1958 America's Cup yacht races.

Join us THIS FRIDAY for the final concert of the OTHPS season!
A community orchestra of musicians organized to perform the music of Eastern European countries, The Washington Balalaika Society is the largest orchestra of its kind in America. It includes voices, balalaikas and domras, as well as bayans and accordions, a traditional wind section of flutes, clarinet, oboes and percussion. FREE and open to the public!! 🎵🎶🎻
