Today marks 25 years since the September 11th attacks. That day, 343 FDNY firefighters gave their lives in service to others. We remember the other victims that day and the hundreds of first responders that have died from after effects of rescue work at ground zero and those still living with the physical and emotional toll of that day.

If you’re not actively on duty at a fire station or out of county on the fireline, we NEED YOU to show up. Make the arrangements. Step up. Don’t just use words like brotherhood & sisterhood and solidarity; demonstrate them.

This is about our members and their families. It’s about helping with recruitment to help alleviate the mandatory OT problems. This is about the physical and emotional health of our people. It’s about decreasing occupational exposures and being able to stay healthy in retirement.

Make it a priority. Take the time. Stand up to help fix the issue that was imposed on us over 13 years ago.

This Labor Day we celebrate and remember the labor wins of those who paved the way.
The federal holiday we enjoy today came out of the Pullman Railroad Car Company Strike of 1894, when about 30 people were killed in Chicago. Congress made Labor Day a federal holiday that same year.

You may not know that many of the workplace protections we assume are “just how it works” were fought for and won with the help of organized labor. The 8-hour day, the weekend, a minimum wage and overtime pay, and workplace safety rules to name a few.

In the fire service, wins made by labor and the IAFF are also wins for the public we serve: fully staffed apparatus, equipment and training standards, response time standards, presumptive illness protections. All of it helps ensure that a rested, healthy, trained, fully staffed crew arrives when 911 is called.

🔥 ATTENTION ALL L1775 Members.
We need you to please step up and join us in the 14th in Sacramento. If you’re not actively on-duty, please make the arrangements to stand with your brothers and sisters in Public Safety. This is what Labor Union Solidarity is all about. The Pension Reforms are for our people and their families.

CPF and L1775 has done their part in helping to get this through both parts of the State Legislature; it’s time that we ALL step up as firefighters and work to make this happen.

We need you in Sacramento on Monday, September 14th. Meet at the Capitol and let’s make sure Governor Gavin Newsom knows just how important this is to public safety.
