Democrats For Life of America (DFLA)

Democrats For Life of America (DFLA) We are Democrats building a shared vision where every life is protected from womb to tomb. We believe in the core values and principles of the Democratic Party.

We believe in the fundamental worth, dignity, and equality of all people. We believe that the protection of human life is the foundation of human rights, authentic freedom, and good government. These beliefs animate our opposition to abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, embryonic stem cell research, poverty, genocide, and all other injustices that directly and indirectly threaten human life. W

e are committed to freedom and justice, security and prosperity, equality and community, and hope and progress. We are proud to be members of the party that created the New Deal, Fair Deal, and New Frontier. We share the party’s commitment to the Four Freedoms: freedom of speech and religion, and freedom from fear and want. We look to continue and perfect the party’s commitment to the most vulnerable members of our society. We believe in the legal protection of unborn life and a comprehensive, bipartisan approach to reducing the number of abortions in America and around the world. We believe in supporting women and children, strengthening families and communities, and protecting the environment. We favor eliminating unfair discrimination, improving education, and preserving the American dream for all Americans. We believe in the elimination of the death penalty, euthanasia, and embryonic stem cell research. We believe in honest, efficient government that compliments the market and civil society to build a strong economy that benefits all Americans. We believe this can be achieved through consistent growth, sensible regulation, fair taxation, and adequate wages, along with efforts to ensure the equality of opportunity, a reduction in poverty, and the existence of an effective social safety net that guarantees that all people have sufficient access to food, shelter, health care, and life’s other basic necessities. Globally, we oppose tyranny, terrorism, genocide, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, human trafficking, and all other unjust acts of violence and aggression. We support international cooperation, the spread of democracy and human rights, and the empowerment of women. In representing pro-life Democrats within the true “big tent” party, DFLA works across a broad spectrum of life ethics. We recognize that people of good faith have different approaches to these issues; therefore, we refuse to use a single issue as a “litmus test” to exclude those who would otherwise seek common ground with us on the expansion of human rights. We encourage all people committed to the common good to work together to protect human life at all of its stages.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, marking the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received the news of freedom. That news came more than 900 days (2 and ½ years) after the Emancipation Proclamation took effect.

Juneteenth is a reminder that human dignity is not granted by government, culture, courts, or public opinion. It belongs to every person because every human being has inherent worth. Celebrating Juneteenth means honoring freedom, confronting injustice, and recommitting ourselves to a society where no human being is treated as disposable.

Happy Juneteenth.

Christianity Today highlights something Democrats for Life has been saying for years: supporting pregnant women and protecting unborn children should not be a partisan issue.

This article mentions Democrats for Life of America’s endorsement of the bipartisan Supporting Healthy Moms and Babies Act, which would eliminate out-of-pocket costs for prenatal care, childbirth, and postpartum care. No woman should feel forced toward abortion because pregnancy, birth, or parenting feels financially impossible.

Democrats and Republicans can disagree on abortion law and still work together to make it easier for mothers and babies to thrive. This is the kind of common-ground, whole-life policy our country needs. Read the article:

Legislation to improve prenatal well-being stalled in Congress, but Arkansas and Maryland launched new assistance for pregnant women and their babies.

Democrats fight against language that dehumanizes immigrants and racial minorities. Why do we not do the same for the unborn?

Rep. Shri Thanedar's recent post describing the unborn as "a half-ounce fetus with no consciousness," wasn't just crass; it points to a much deeper issue — language that dismisses the dignity of an entire population.

A true democrat defends dignity. Because worth shouldn't be defined by size, strength, independence, or convenience.

There are moments when a politician says the quiet part out loud.

Zenaida Perez's case against Fairfax County Public Schools may be complex, but that makes it even more important to seek the truth.

"Vulnerable immigrants must be able to report mistreatment without fear and First Amendment protections still apply, even when the subject is abortion."

A federal judge dismissed Zenaida Perez’s lawsuit against Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), ruling that she had not sufficiently pleaded a whistleblower-retaliation claim.

NPR reports that Democrats are rethinking abortion messaging as voters focus more on affordability and the cost of living.

Here is the part Democratic leaders keep missing: abortion is not an affordability plan.

Too often, abortion is presented as the solution to economic hardship. But women deserve better than a party that says, in effect, “We cannot make it affordable for you to have your baby, but we can make it easier to end the pregnancy.”

Whole Life Democrats believe affordability should mean making it easier to welcome children, not easier to dispose of them.

Democrats can fight for working families without abandoning unborn children. In fact, that is exactly what a party committed to human dignity should do.

Democrats For Life of America was proud to join an amicus brief in support of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and other plaintiffs challenging the EEOC’s abortion-accommodation mandate.

The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act was supposed to protect pregnant women from workplace discrimination and help ensure they could carry their children without losing their jobs. The EEOC’s rule turns that purpose on its head by requiring pro-life organizations to accommodate abortion — the very act they exist to oppose.

Pro-life organizations should be free to advocate for pregnant women, unborn children, and a culture of life without being forced into government-coerced hypocrisy. Women deserve workplace support. Pregnant workers deserve protection. And pro-life organizations deserve the freedom to remain pro-life.

"Commonweal’s new piece, “Reviving the Pro-Life Democrat,” by Timothy Kirchoff, gets at something many Whole Life Democrats have been saying for years: we are not asking to be tolerated as a political inconvenience.

We are asking to be heard.

A real coalition cannot treat pro-life Democrats as useful only when it helps win difficult races. If Democrats want to build a durable movement for justice, then human dignity has to be part of the conversation — including abortion, maternity care, poverty, family policy, disability rights, health care, and every issue where vulnerable people are pushed aside.

Whole Life Democrats belong in the coalition because our convictions are rooted in the same concern for the vulnerable that should animate the Democratic Party at its best.

"Pope Leo XIV’s first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas — “Magnificent Humanity” — is a powerful reminder that every human life is worthy of protection.

In a world that too often measures people by usefulness, convenience, productivity, power, or politics, Pope Leo calls us back to the truth at the heart of human dignity: every person matters.

That includes the child yet to be born.

That includes the elderly.

That includes the poor, the disabled, the sick, the migrant, the mother in crisis, and every person society is tempted to overlook.

Whole life Democrats believe our politics should reflect this truth. Human dignity is not conditional. It is not partisan. It does not begin only when someone is wanted, powerful, healthy, or born.

A just society protects life — before birth, after birth, and at every vulnerable stage."

Today we remember and honor the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. May their sacrifice call us to gratitude, humility, and a deeper commitment to protecting human life and human dignity.

Colorado lawmakers want to mandate abortion pills on college campuses.

DFL of Colorado President, Dr. Tom Perille, pointed out the obvious. Student health centers are designed for primary care — not complex reproductive health services that may require follow-up care or surgical intervention.

Students deserve better than a political mandate. They deserve honest information, real medical safeguards, and support that puts their health first.
