Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Explorer Post 1949

Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Explorer Post 1949 The primary mission of the post is to allow young men and women between the ages of 14 to 20 the opportunity to learn about a career in fire and rescue.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Explorer Post 1949 was established in 2005 and is operated under the direction of a uniformed Program Manager with oversight from the Chief Training Officer. The post also serves as a constructive means for explorers to serve their community, build leadership skills, and avoid delinquent behaviors that endanger today's youth. The post meets three times each month

to conduct training events on various aspects of the fire service. All training is orchestrated by both career and volunteer staff of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, as they serve as positive role models for those interested in the field. Explorers have the opportunity to practice pulling fire hose, throwing ladders, practicing emergency medical skills, sitting in with fire and police dispatchers, attempting the fire department's physical agility test (CPAT), experience a driving simulator, and participate in a fire department competition with other explorer posts. After a short training session, explorers are permitted to accompany fire and rescue personnel to emergency incidents, providing them an even more comprehensive understanding of the field.
