Breaking down borders and barriers!

The 2nd annual City of Fairbanks Council vs Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly (plus Mayor Grier and Mayor Mindy) competition is in the books!

Last year bowling, this year mini golf at the Santa Claus House - North Pole, Alaska!

While the trophy stays in the city - by 1 stroke! - the friendships and bonds built help make sure our whole community is in better, more cooperative hands.

What a day!!! So many great things happening in our Borough!

Started the morning at University Park Elementary for Elected Officials Day, organized by teacher Satya Sophia Pearl. Representative Mike Prax, Representative Maxine Dibert, Representative Ashley Carrick , Rep Will Stapp and I talked about how to get along with people you don’t always agree with and what it means to be a good citizen.

Then, over to Golden Heart Waste Management to learn about their new community composting plans!

Finally, on my way home from the office swung by the Fairbanks Children's Museum to celebrate Day with the North Star Imagination Library and their 2,700 kids signed up and over 1,000,000 books given away in their 18 years 🙂

Happy Friday everybody!

Happy Labor Day, Fairbanks from Izzy and I!

I might be on the other side of the table now, but I know what makes our community and state move!

Workers rights are human rights, in the classroom, at the construction site, and at every work place.

Unions help lift wages up for all workers, and get more projects done on time, under budget and done right the first time. The decade I worked in labor, I lost track of the number of times I had to make sure teachers weren’t required to work on a weekend. Defending and respecting agreements is what makes work places operate better.

What better way to start off your birthday then junkyard cleanup helping our community look beautiful 🙂 I What better way to start off your birthday then junkyard cleanup helping our community look beautiful 🙂

I might be aging but with efforts like this with over 75 volunteers after today over 50 tons cleaned up, our community is aging backwards and getting younger by the day!
