Village of Fair Haven Residents,
We want to update residents on rising bay water levels and highlight the importance of community preparedness.
We are monitoring the situation in coordination with the Cayuga County Office of Emergency Services. CC OES is in continuous contact with Lake Ontario County Emergency Managers, the NYS Department of Homeland Security, NOAA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the International Lake Ontario–St. Lawrence River Board. Our current lake levels remain below those of 2024 and 2025, though we reached an early-season crest unusually quickly.
Our residents should use personal resources first when dealing with non-emergency issues such as minor yard flooding. Public preparedness is also underway. The Village is securing sand, and the County has a sandbagging machine, sandbags and pallets available for deployment, if necessary.
Emergency response is activated when conditions threaten life safety, block emergency access, utility disruption, or require incident stabilization and property protection. If rising water impacts roadways and prevents fire or ambulance access, Village, Town, or County Highway Departments will deploy equipment as needed. Road closures or detours will be implemented based on their guidance.
