City of Eyota, MN Government Eyota (e-yo-ta) meaning "superior" Eyota is in SE Minnesota, located 10 miles east of Rochester.Eyota's population as of 2010 Census is 1977 residents.

Access city from MN State Hwy 14 or Interstate 90 & Highway 42. The name "Eyota" was an American Indian word that meant "Superior". One theory is that early settlers hoped to express that the land in the area was high quality and would attract additional settlers. Another theory is that the word actually refers to its elevation being higher than the surrounding area. There are seven parks in town, a skate park, a disc golf course, a cafe, a furniture repair shop, piano sales and service shop, three hairdressers, a post office, a commercial 24/7 workout gym, a mechanic shop, a veterinarian, a pet groomer, a florist, an American Legion post, a grain elevator, a convenience store,and a grocery store

The City of Eyota is officially announcing the opening of our newest park Cedar Grove Park. This park includes bike & walking trails.

This Saturday, September 12th we will be opening the park for the first time at 12:00 PM. Come check out the new park, hit the trails, and help us celebrate this exciting addition to our community! Located between 2nd Street and Carolann Street this park is right along the paved bike trail. There is no parking at the park, so you will need to park on 2nd Street (once construction is complete) or Carolann Street. We do expect most people to walk or bike to the park.

A project like this doesn’t happen without a lot of people willing to put in the time, effort, and hard work. We want to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make Cedar Grove Park Bike and Walking Trails a reality:

2nd Street SW update
The 2026 Street & Utility Improvements project on 2nd Street SW is ongoing. Work will continue from Minnesota Highway 42 to Jefferson Avenue.

A wood stake has been placed in the yards for the proposed location for the subdrain service pipe. This pipe will be available to connect your private sump pump to. If you would like this pipe installed in a different location in your yard, please contact Matt Klein at WHKS to adjust the location.

2nd St SW will still be closed from MN-42 to Jefferson Ave.

Update on 5th ST NE street project for Monday August 24th 2026. Residents will have to use the Green Highlighted Detour Route. Detour will last for at least one week. There will be no thru traffic to County Road 7. Contractors will be digging up the Summerfield intersection to finish the underground and excavation of the new road. With school starting soon, SL Construction will do their best to get this reopened so traffic can travel on the normal route into town. We are trying to work out a solution for any kids that get picked up by bus if the road closure is still in effect. Sorry for the inconvenience.
