FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Slow-Moving Superload Set to Move Through Area Including Armstrong, Westmoreland and Indiana Counties
Drivers should expect traffic impacts

Indiana, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists that on September 16, a superload being transported from Schenley, PA is expected travel through portions of Armstrong, Westmoreland and Indiana counties.

The superload is 205 feet long, 17 feet wide, and weighs 381 tons. Starting at 9:00 AM on September 16, the load will travel from Schenley to Route 66 through Leechburg and Apollo to Delmont then on to Route 22. It will continue to the Westmoreland/Indiana County line on Route 22 towards Blairsville. It will then pull off at a staging area near Blairsville to install additional equipment to continue transport. Motorists should use alternate routes as delays will be likely.

Travel will resume at 7:00 PM along Route 22/119. Drivers west of the Indiana County line should expect to utilize a detour route. As the superload travels along Route 22/119 past Blairsville to its staging area along Route 119 drivers will be unable to pass the superload and can expect to travel at a very slow speed. Drivers east of the Indiana County line should expect to encounter a rolling slowdown on Route 22 East while the superload is crossing the bridge over the Conemaugh River.

All vehicles travelling on Route 22/119 west of the Indiana County line will detour using Bairdstown Road/West Market Street to East Market Street/Old William Penn Highway to the Route 22/119 interchange.

On September 17, the load will continue on its route at 9:00 AM. It will travel onto Campbells Mill Road (Route 3011) to Blacklick Road (Route 3013) to the Homer City Power Plant. Both personal vehicles and truck traffic will be detoured.

All vehicles will be detoured at the Route 119 intersection with Campbells Mill Road south to Route 22 West. Proceed across Route 22 West then north on Route 217 to Blacklick Road.

Travel times, route and detours for future superloads will be announced by PennDOT prior to approved transportation dates as needed. Travel dates and times may be affected by weather.

Drivers should be aware that there will be multiple entities involved including es**rt vehicles, Pennsylvania State Police, and bucket trucks staged to lift wires as needed.

The superload will at times move like a rolling slowdown using two traffic lanes which will result in traffic stoppages and travel delays. Drivers should remain alert for this slow-moving, two-lane operation, which will travel approximately 10 - 25 miles per hour, or slower as needed, and use alternate routes when possible.

For Slickville residents still without power who need to charge their devices or just need a moment to cool off, the Slickville Social Hall is open at 9:30 a.m. today. Current estimated time for power is 2:00 pm today. Primary cause was a down tree that hit multiple poles.

Social Hall is open anyone in town still without power. You welcome to charge devices, use wifi, freshen up, the department has also reached out to aquire some food for anyone in need of something to eat. The department has also reached out to Jill Cooper's office on getting answers from West Penn they currently have 2 crews in the area working on the outage problem.
Also anyone that needs to refrigerate medication can stop by the hall to do so.

25 years later, the memories of September 11 remain powerful and so does the responsibility to remember. My family and I have visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York in the past. Standing at the reflecting pools, reading the names and walking through the museum brings a weight and solemnity that photographs and history books simply cannot capture. As more Americans grow up without firsthand memories of that day, it is more important than ever to keep its stories alive, remember the courage of first responders and ordinary citizens and honor the unity that followed.

As part of the celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday, the House of Representatives held a special session at the historic Congress Hall in Philadelphia.

This incredible landmark served as the U.S. Capitol from December 6, 1790, to May 14, 1800, while Philadelphia was the nation’s capital. The House of Representatives met on the first floor and the Senate met upstairs. Now, it is part of Independence National Historical Park and has been restored using period-appropriate documentation.

I was honored to support the two resolutions passed during the special session, House Resolution 589 https://www.palegis.us/legislation/bills/2025/hr0589, which celebrates the momentous and historic occasion of the United States Semiquincentennial and House Resolution 590 https://www.palegis.us/legislation/bills/2025/hr590, which celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Constitution of Pennsylvania and its impact on American democracy.

As we draw closer to the anniversary of September 11, 2001, may God bless the souls lost and the loved ones they left behind on this tragic day. Only six current members of the House were in office when the tragedy occurred 25 years ago, and it is interesting to hear their perspectives on what happened that day and beyond. My Export and Murrysville offices participated in the Red Sand Project to shine a light on human trafficking and those who have fallen through the cracks.

Lynn Mance of the Westmoreland Human Trafficking Task Force visits my district offices each year to place red sand in the sidewalk cracks in front of the office to serve as a powerful reminder that human trafficking can happen anywhere. It can even happen right here in our communities. Thank you, Lynn, for continuing this educational tradition and reminding us of the importance of this issue.

As eBike use continues to grow, so do concerns about safety, speeding and reckless operation on our roads and sidewalks. I believe we can support responsible eBike use while also giving our municipalities the tools they need to address safety concerns in their own communities. That’s why I’m proposing legislation that takes a balanced approach — protecting responsible riders while giving local communities greater authority and putting safeguards in place.

Customers should assume all downed or low-hanging power lines are energized and dangerous. Stay at least 30 feet away and use extra caution where downed lines are tangled in trees or other debris. Report downed lines ASAP by calling 911.
