πŸ•ΆοΈ SUNGLASSES TIP #1

Not all sunglasses are created equal.

When shopping for sunglasses, look for lenses that block 99-100% of UVA and UVB rays. UV damage can occur year-round, even on cloudy days.

Just as sunscreen helps protect your skin, sunglasses help protect your eyes.

Did you know? Up to 80% of UV rays can pass through clouds.

πŸ“Έ Don't forget to enter our National Sunglasses Day giveaway of three $5 Starbucks gift cards by posting a sunglasses selfie and tagging Northeast Sight Services!

β˜€οΈ Camp Sight is officially underway!

Today, campers kicked off the first week of Camp Sight 2026 at Northeast Sight Services, where they got to know one another, learned what’s in store for the week ahead, and started building new friendships.

The group then headed to Tony's Pizzeria to make their own pizzas before stopping at JFL What's the Scoop? for a sweet treat. The day wrapped up at the Pittston Memorial Library, where campers participated in ice breakers and activities designed to help everyone connect and feel at home for the week ahead.

We're looking forward to a week filled with new experiences, confidence-building activities, and plenty of fun. Stay tuned as we share more from Camp Sight throughout the week!

Recently, a group of Northeast Sight Services clients enjoyed an afternoon walk at the Wyoming Valley Mall, combining exercise, socialization, and community engagement.

Participants took a guided walk through the mall at their own pace, enjoying conversation and time together while staying active. Afterward, the group gathered in the food court to relax and catch up before treating themselves to refreshments from Auntie Anne's Pretzels Wyoming Valley Mall.

Programs like this provide more than just an opportunity for physical activity. They create meaningful opportunities for connection, help reduce social isolation, and encourage individuals to remain engaged and active in their communities.

We enjoyed spending the afternoon together and look forward to our next outing!

πŸ“ Out and About in the Community

The Northeast Sight Services team has been busy connecting with community partners and supporters throughout the region.

Recently, we attended the CASA of Wyoming Valley Touch-A-Truck event, celebrated the accomplishments of the latest Leadership Northeast graduating class, and joined the American Heart Association - Pennsylvania's Pursenalities purse auction.

These events provide valuable opportunities to build relationships, support fellow organizations, and stay engaged with the communities we serve. We are grateful to be part of a region where so many individuals and organizations are working together to make a difference.

Thank you to each of these organizations for the work you do and for allowing us to be part of these meaningful events.

Yesterday, Amy and Kristen visited the Northeast Regional Crisis Stabilization Center at the Center for Community Resources in Honesdale to provide staff training through our Community Accessibility Program.

This program is designed to help organizations create more inclusive and accessible environments by providing practical guidance on how to effectively and respectfully interact with individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Training can include best practices for communication, guiding techniques, environmental awareness, and ways to remove barriers that may impact independence and access.

We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with organizations like the Crisis Stabilization Center that are committed to strengthening accessibility and improving services for the individuals they support.

If your organization or business is interested in hosting a training through our Community Accessibility Program, we would be happy to connect.

πŸ§—β€β™‚οΈ Reaching New Heights with InSight Kids Club!

Earlier this month, members of our InSight Kids Club spent the day at Wilkes-Barre Climbing Gym, challenging themselves on the climbing wall and building confidence with every inch.

The experience encouraged participants to step outside their comfort zones, try something new, and support one another along the way. Whether it was reaching the top of the wall or simply taking that first step off the ground, each climber had the opportunity to build skills, independence, and self-confidence in a fun and supportive environment.

A big thank you to the team at the Wilkes-Barre Climbing Gym for providing such a welcoming experience for our InSight Kids Club participants.

This month's Wayne County Lunch & Learn explored how emerging technology is creating new opportunities for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Kristen introduced participants to a variety of assistive technologies, including smart glasses and mobile applications that can help users navigate daily tasks with greater independence. From reading menus and signs to identifying objects and accessing real-time visual assistance, these tools are helping make everyday activities more accessible than ever before.

Programs like Lunch & Learn provide an opportunity for clients to stay informed about new resources, ask questions, and discover solutions that may enhance their independence and quality of life.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for another engaging program in Wayne County!
