Last night (11/18) at court, someone left a pair of shoes in the courtroom. We have them at clerk's office (located in the Police Department). Please come and describe the color and size so we can return them to you.

If they have not been claimed in 2 weeks, we will donate them.

The Municipal Court will be closed Friday, November 14th, for the clerk to attend a funeral. We apologize for any inconvenience.

You are always welcome to call and leave a voicemail. All voicemails are returned if a call back number is provided.

A new law aimed at reducing distracted driving will take effect Aug. 28. This year, the Missouri Legislature passed RSMO 304.822, the Siddens Bening Hands Free Law. (It's named for two people who were killed by drivers distracted by their phones.) Missouri is the 49th state to enact such a law.

Here are some highlights of the new law:

-Drivers may not hold any electronic devices to send or receive calls, texts, watch videos, record videos, broadcast, chat, or make or receive other electronic communications while driving.

-Using GPS units, hands-free functions or two-way radios is allowed.

-A person is allowed to use an electronic device if legally stopped or parked.

-Law enforcement officers and other emergency vehicle operators are permitted to use electronic devices while driving in an emergency vehicle when it is job-related.

Some other things you should know:

- The law takes effect in less than two weeks, but law enforcement cannot issue citations for it until Jan. 1, 2025. We can give warnings until then.

- This is not a primary violation, meaning it can't be the only reason law enforcement pulls you over.

- The fine for violating the law will be $150.

Did you miss an Excelsior Springs court date and now have an active warrant for your arrest?

The Excelsior Springs Municipal Division will be offering WALK-IN WEDNESDAYS during the month of JUNE 2023.

Upon surrendering, bonds will be waived on Wednesdays for the month of JUNE 2023 between the hours of 9:00am-4:00pm.
