Honoring and remembering not only our World War II veterans who died at Pearl Harbor and Ewa Battlefield, but also those who sacrificed their lives in sea battles and distant coral atolls—Coral Sea, Midway, Wake Island—whose names often go unrecognized…

🇺🇸 Happy Father’s Day! 🇺🇸

Today, we honor and celebrate all the great dads who lead with strength, sacrifice, wisdom, and unconditional love. Thank you for the countless ways you support your families, mentor future generations, and serve as role models in our communities.

On this special day, we extend our deepest gratitude to our Active Duty Servicemembers, Veterans, and military fathers who have answered the call to serve our nation. Your dedication to duty and family exemplifies the very best of America.

We also hold close in our hearts those fathers who are currently deployed and serving far from home. While distance may separate you from your loved ones today, your sacrifices are deeply appreciated and never forgotten. We wish you strength, safety, and the comfort of knowing that your families, communities, and grateful nation are thinking of you.

From all of us at AMVETS Hawaii, we wish every father a blessed and Happy Father’s Day!

🇺🇸 SERVICE • PATRIOTISM • FELLOWSHIP • COMMUNITY 🇺🇸

Major James Capers Jr., U.S. Marine Corps, received the Medal of Honor today.

Born into a sharecropping family in South Carolina, James Capers Jr. joined the Marine Corps in 1956 and went on to become one of the service’s pioneering Force Reconnaissance Marines.

During a reconnaissance mission near Phu Loc, Vietnam, in April 1967, then-Second Lieutenant Capers continued leading his team after suffering multiple gunshot and fragmentation wounds. Refusing evacuation, he coordinated the defense and extraction until every Marine under his command was safely aboard the helicopter.

The National Medal of Honor Museum will preserve and share his story so future generations can better understand the determination, leadership, and commitment to others that defined his actions that day.
