Hawaiʻi parents… when your Mid says “We have Alpha Inspection”, just know — this is NOT your regular “clean your room before Grandma comes over” kine clean. 😂

Alpha Inspection is the BIG one.

At least once each semester, Midshipmen rooms in Bancroft Hall are inspected under Alpha Condition. That means everything needs to be squared away — floors polished, surfaces spotless, uniforms and clothing organized precisely, and even books arranged properly. 🧼✨

On regular days, rooms are expected to stay in Bravo Condition — neat, orderly and inspection-ready. But Alpha? Alpha takes it to another level. 😳

Think:

🌺 Hawaiʻi clean = “Eh, pick up your stuff, company coming!”

⚓ USNA Alpha clean = “Better hope that white glove finds NOTHING.” 😂

And yes, there’s a bigger lesson behind all that scrubbing and organizing. USNA uses inspections to reinforce discipline, accountability, precision and attention to detail — habits our Mids will need someday while leading Sailors and Marines.

So if your Mid suddenly disappears because they’re cleaning Bancroft like their life depends on it…

Now you know. Alpha Inspection. 😂🧹⚓

To all our Hawaiʻi Mids: Hiki nō! You got this! 💙💛

Parents — has your Mid told you any funny Alpha Inspection stories yet? Drop ’em below! 👇

Not the score we wanted, but still our team. Still our ʻohana. 💙💛⚓

Air Force got us today, 14–9. Ho, that one hurt! But get some bright spots: Navy held Air Force scoreless the entire second half, and freshman Truman Brasfield scored his FIRST collegiate touchdown on a 68-yard catch! 👏

Meanwhile, with all the Air Force Week pranks and foolishness, sounds like our Mids were living in one prank “war zone”! 😂 Cannot even turn the corner without wondering, “What going happen now?!”

Back to reality this coming week—classes, studying, and hopefully a little less looking over the shoulder. Can relax small kine… but the homework still waiting! 📚😅

To our players and the whole Brigade: heads up. Learn, regroup, and keep going. Your Hawaiʻi ʻohana is cheering across the sea—through the wins AND the tough days. 🌺

And parents, drink water and rest the voice. We going need you next game! 🤙

Drop some 💙💛 below and send our Mids a little aloha!

Look at the cool stuff our Mids get to do! The GLEE is singing the National Anthem at a Baltimore Ravens game!

Aloha, USNA Hawaiʻi ʻohana! 🌺⚓🫡

Figured I'd better introduce myself! I’m Toddi Nakagawa, your Parents Club President and proud mom of Sam, USNA ’24, and Charli, USNA ’30.

Our first go-round with Sam was during COVID, so this second journey with Charli feels brand new. Ho, still learning! 😂 I’ll share what I know and discover along the way, and I hope you’ll do the same.

I don’t have a military background, so those of you who serve or have served are probably way ahead of me. We also have some West Point parents who get suspiciously quiet when everyone starts yelling GO NAVY, BEAT ARMY! 👀🤣 All good—we get aloha for you, too!

I’ve been told my job is to support the parents—to help answer questions, offer comfort, and help us understand what our Mids are experiencing, including decoding some of that USNA “code,” jargon, and traditions. Sometimes we need one translator just to follow the conversation! 😂 I’ll do my best, and when I don’t know something, we can find out together. I’m in your shoes, too.

One thing I’ve come to realize: our kids are exceptional. They work hard and get to experience incredible things that many people never get a chance to do.

So consider this your invitation: Brah, brag all you like in here! Share the accomplishments, adventures, photos, and little victories they worked so hard for. We love the wins, and we support the effort it takes to get there.

Outside this USNA ʻohana, not everyone understands why a milestone means so much—or why we’re ready to tell the story again. But WE DO! No need hold back or apologize for being proud. We like hear it ALL!

You know why? ’Cause we like brag about our kids, too! 🤣🤙

And when things aren’t so awesome, there’s room for that here, too. Let’s ask questions, talk through the worries, and remind each other we’re not doing this alone.

To our parents of USNA graduates: no be shy! Your experience can mean so much to families just starting out. Please jump in, share what you’ve learned, and help guide our newer parents.

Our keiki are miles away, but our pride, aloha, and support can reach across the sea. Let’s mālama each other while our Mids work hard to become their best—and enjoy the ride together. 💙💛

Me ke aloha,
Toddi 🤙

Your Mid is a WHAT? 🤔⚓

Plebe, Youngster, Second Class, Firstie… ho, even us parents gotta learn the lingo! 😂

Welcome to Know Your Mid: Hawaiʻi Edition, our weekly peek into Academy life—with a little aloha mixed in.

Watch this week’s class decoder, then come introduce your Mid! Still at the Academy or already grad—no matter, all part of our USNA Hawaiʻi ʻohana. 🌺

Tell us:
⚓ Their name
⚓ What year they grad from USNA—or going grad
🤙 What school they went in Hawaiʻi?

Just the basics, no need one whole résumé! 😆 Come talk story and reconnect with the ʻohana.

⚓️ USNA TRADITION: NOON MEAL FORMATION ⚓️

Before lunch, the Brigade of Midshipmen gathers by company in T-Court outside Bancroft Hall. Attendance reports are given, commands are called, and thousands of Mids stand together in formation—often accompanied by the Naval Academy Band or Drum and Bugle Corps.

This century-old tradition is about much more than lunch. It strengthens discipline, accountability, teamwork, and unity before the Brigade heads into King Hall to eat together.

Just another glimpse of what our Hawaiʻi Mids experience at the Academy. Kūlia i ka nuʻu—strive for the highest! 💙💛

Go Navy! Beat Army! ⚓️
