Today is International Literacy Day.

Basic education and literacy is one of Rotary International's seven areas of focus. As you go through your day, take a moment to imagine how difficult it would be to navigate work, school, healthcare and everyday life without the ability to read, write or understand basic information.

If you are inspired to help, please consider donating to The Rotary Foundation or supporting our local Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program. Together, we can help open the door to learning, opportunity and a brighter future.

The Rotary Club of Evergreen, Colorado Recycle Day is Saturday, September 19 from 9am to noon at Evergreen Country Day School. This event is open to the public and we encourage you to bring your "hard to recycle" items. Tires, electronics, paint, bicycles, mattresses, paper for shredding, and more will be collected and kept out of landfills. As the leaders of the Area 8 Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program, we have received many calls, texts and emails today asking about the future of the program. Dolly and her team had a plan in place. As they said in a communication today, "We have prepared carefully for this day and for the future of the Imagination Library. Our organization is strong, our mission is clear, and our commitment to the children and families we serve has never been greater.

Dolly didn't build the Imagination Library to last for her lifetime. She built it to last for theirs."

So we will keep on sending books to children and fostering literacy. For Dolly.

When live music is playing and the summer evening calls, we show up! Thank you to all who came to enjoy our Rowdy Rotarians evening! Thank you to the crew who showed up early to reserve a spot and brought the delicious food and drinks. What a night to celebrate fun, friends and fellowship!

Why are we DARK? Because we're having Rowdy Rotarians on Wednesday, 8/5, at Buchanan Park Field!

The music kicks off at 5:00, and the Rotary Club of Evergreen will provide some snacks and drinks to share. Just grab a chair or blanket and come hang out with your favorite Rotarians! (Psst — you can also bring your own food and drinks to the park.)
