The City of Evergreen will be taking applications for the position of police officer effective immediately through February 8, 2019. Applications may be acquired by contacting the Evergreen Police Department at 355 East Front Street, Evergreen, AL 36401, telephone 251-578-1111.

QUALIFICATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
(Any item with an asterisk will be taught on the job.)

1. Writing skills to clearly and neatly complete routine forms, records and reports.
2. Verbal communication skills to communicate factual information to co-workers, supervisors, general public and court personnel
3. Reading skills to read and understand department rules, regulations, policies and procedures of law enforcement.
4. Skills in basic math.
*5. Knowledge of local, state and federal principles, practices and procedures of law enforcement.
6. Listening skills to receive dispatch calls, take complaints and interview witnesses.
7. Driving skills to make emergency runs at high speeds or give pursuit of vehicles.
*8. Knowledge of city, state and federal court procedures and requirements.
*9. Knowledge of city, its buildings and road system.
10. Knowledge of first aid.
*11. Knowledge of disaster and emergency procedures.
*12. Knowledge of department rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
13. Ability to properly and safely use a weapon.
14. Knowledge of maintenance and use of different types of weapons.
*15. Knowledge of use of patrol equipment, i.e., handcuffs, radar and patrol units.
16. Ability to communicate with a variety of people with diverse backgrounds.
17. Ability to analyze situations and adopt quick, effective and reasonable course of action.
18. Possess a valid Alabama driver license at time of appointment.
19. Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
20. Willing to work overtime, non-standard hours, weekends and holidays as required.
21. At least 21 years of age.
22. Applicant must pass the Basic Ability Test (BAT) which is available at any Alabama
Community College within the state. A fee of $45 must be paid to take the exam which
will be refunded to you if you are hired.

Duties are as follows:

Patrol the city. Respond to complaints. Conduct preliminary investigations. Provide traffic control and assistance. Testifies in court. Assumes dispatching duties when required. Performs other police related duties as required.

Grade VI

NOTE: Current city employees will be considered first for this position. If not filled internally, then external applications will be considered. Applicants with P.O.S.T. Certification will be considered first. Subsequent positions for the next six months may be filled from this list.
