As a reminder as we head into Memorial Day weekend, today is "Don't Fry Day" in Snohomish County!

The National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention has designated the Friday before Memorial Day as “Don’t Fry Day” to promote sun safety awareness and to remind everyone to protect their skin while enjoying the outdoors. Individuals can take precautions to reduce their risk of developing skin cancer. Sun protection helps prevent the harmful effects of UV exposure, including sunburns, skin cancer, premature skin aging, and eye damage.

When detected early, the 5-year survival rate for melanoma is 99 percent.

We encourage residents to learn more about sun safety. We also urge residents to take measures to decrease the harmful effects of ultraviolet light exposure, such as using sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher, to block harmful sun rays.

Happy Memorial Day weekend!

The Snohomish County Council recognizes May 25, 2026 as Memorial Day in Snohomish County, and we extend their profound gratitude to the many United States military personnel who have died while serving on active duty in our nation’s armed forces.

Snohomish County is home to approximately 45,680 military veterans, and Naval Station Everett—one of the United States military’s strategic West Coast ports—has been integral to our county’s culture, character, and economy for over 30 years.

Naval Station Everett provides thousands of funeral honors throughout the year, including the folding and presentation of the American flag and the playing of “Taps,” reflecting the deep commitment of our active-duty service members and community to remember those who sacrificed everything in defense of our freedoms.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Wednesday when we passed Resolution 26-026 recognizing Memorial Day in Snohomish County!
