Earn a Rain Garden Training Certificate through the Washington Stormwater Center, WSU Extension, and Stewardship Partners!

Free online self-paced introductory course to rain garden planning, construction, plant selection, and maintenance for non-professionals.

🌧️🌿 What’s a Rain Garden? 🌿🌧️

A rain garden is a beautiful, functional landscape feature designed to collect, absorb, and filter stormwater runoff.

These shallow, planted depressions are not permanent ponds—they’re built to temporarily hold rainwater, giving it time to soak into the ground instead of running off into storm drains.

Filled with a special soil mix and planted with hardy, water-tolerant plants, rain gardens help reduce pollution, prevent flooding, and support local ecosystems.

🌱 Simply put: Rain gardens are working gardens—with purpose and beauty.

🚨 🌻 A new parasitic w**d has just been confirmed in Yakima. Be on the lookout for sunflower broomrape — a w**d that relies on plants such as sunflowers for both water and nutrients. It is highly invasive and creates hundreds of thousands of tiny seeds.
If you spot it, DO NOT DISTURB IT as this can spread the seed. Instead, take photos and report suspected sightings to our Pest Program at [email protected].

More info in the WSDA'satest press release:
