We are honored to welcome Javier Zamora – the New York Times bestselling memoirist of "Solito" – as our afternoon keynote speaker at the 2026 Snohomish County Affordable Housing Conference.

Solito: Home, Identity, and the Immigrant Experience:
At only nine years old, Javier left his native El Salvador to embark on a 3000-mile journey to reunite with his parents in the United States. Alone except for the other migrants in his group and the “coyote” hired to guide them across the border, he survived perilous trips across oceans and deserts. Javier will share his harrowing journey and explore how identity influences our ideas of home, bringing humanity and warmth to the figure of the “immigrant,” stressing there are always moments of joy, love, and hope, even in the worst of circumstances. Zamora puts a face to child immigrants and the humanitarian crisis along the US-Mexico border.

Join us Friday June 5th at the Lynnwood Event Center to as we tap into inspiration and collective wisdom to create stronger communities where EVERYONE belongs.

This morning at HopeWorks Station in Everett, we had the opportunity to witness something worth celebrating: the signing of several pro-housing and housing affordability bills into law by Governor Bob Ferguson👏👏👏

These victories don’t happen overnight. They are the result of sustained leadership, partnership, and advocacy (we see you, Washington Low Income Housing Alliance!), and we're especially proud to stand alongside Snohomish County champions who continue to push forward solutions to address our region’s challenging housing needs.

But as the Governor emphasized, the real work continues. The housing crisis will continue to demand urgency, creativity, and sustained commitment. Today is certainly a tangible momentum boost and improvement to our systems, but we’ve got to continue to display “the grit” (as Lt. Gov. Heck stated) to meet the challenge head on.

Grateful to be in this work with so many dedicated leaders and partners. Let’s keep building!

We are thrilled to congratulate Station Unidos on the formation of their new Community Development Corporation in the City of Everett!

Yesterday’s event was nothing short of powerful: a room filled with community leaders, neighbors, housing advocates, and partners all united around a shared vision for equitable development and community ownership. The energy, pride, and commitment in the space reflected just how important this milestone is.

This new CDC represents an exciting next step for both the Casino Road Neighborhood and the Everett Station District. Community-led development is essential to ensuring that growth reflects the voices, culture, and needs of the people who call these neighborhoods home.

We are inspired by the leadership and vision behind this effort and look forward to partnering in the work ahead to create affordable housing opportunities and lasting community impact.

The future is bright — and this is what the power of community looks like.

Education and learning never stops, especially when so much is at stake in trying to provide affordable housing solutions in Snohomish County.

That’s why the Consortium is beginning a monthly “Lunch & Learn” series, where members have the opportunity to join a zoom during the lunch hour and learn something new about our affordable housing space. For the first session we’re bringing Nicholas Carr, Housing Policy Advisor to Governor Ferguson, to the Consortium with a session titled “Offsite Construction—A Public/Private Path to Scalable Housing Manufacturing Production.” We hope to see you all there! You won’t want to miss it. Sign up now via “Events” at housingsnohomish.org
