Hartman Arboretum

Hartman Arboretum A place where people can be close to nature and enjoy a diversity of trees and shrubs.

Many of the trees and shrubs seen at the Hartman Arboretum are native to Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky, also know as the Shawnee Hills area. New plant varieties that are not common to this area can also be observed. We have a thriving wildlife garden that attracts thousands of butterflies. Late summer or early fall are the best times to see the butterflies in full array.

We are looking forward to our Volunteer Day this Saturday with our wonderful Southwestern Indiana Master Gardeners Association volunteers! They always do great work and are so knowledgeable, so come join them 9-11am this Saturday to learn and help at the Arboretum. 🪏🪴 You might even get to dig some plants to take home!

2. A pipevine swallowtail laying eggs on our Dutchman’s pipe
3. Black swallowtail caterpillars on our fennel
