We’ve seen an increase in the use of electric scooters, bicycles, and e-bikes throughout the community. While these can be fun and convenient ways to get around, riders are reminded to operate them responsibly and remain aware of their surroundings at all times.

Parents are encouraged to speak with their children about safe riding habits, the importance of following traffic laws, and respecting pedestrians. Riders should use caution near roadways, intersections, parks, and other high-traffic areas.

Drivers are also reminded to stay alert for scooters, bicycles, and e-bikes traveling on and near streets and crossings. Taking a few extra seconds to look carefully can help prevent serious injuries. Officers will also be on the lookout for dangerous or reckless riding behavior to help ensure everyone is using our streets and pathways safely.

Attached to this post is a graphic that includes important safety reminders, riding tips, and information on laws related to electric scooters, bicycles, and e-bikes. We encourage everyone to take a moment to review it and help keep our community safe.

Our goal is to help everyone enjoy the community safely and responsibly.

THE EVANSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL HOST PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK DAY ON APRIL 25TH FROM 8AM TO 11AM

The Evansville Police Department, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25th at The Evansville Police Department, 10 W. Church St., Evansville, WI 53536.

“Drug Take Back Day is about prevention,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul. “Please help with the fight against addiction by disposing of your unused and unwanted medications at a Drug Take Back event this Saturday or at a permanent drug drop box.”

This effort will continue to bring focus to the issue of prescription medication abuse in Wisconsin. Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the community about the potential abuse and consequences of improper storage and disposal of these medications. Find your nearest drug disposal location: www.doseofrealitywi.gov

Unused or expired medicine should never be flushed or poured down the drain. Water reclamation facilities are not designed to remove all pharmaceuticals and trace amounts are showing up in rivers and lakes.

GUIDELINES:

All waste pharmaceuticals must be generated by a household – no businesses are allowed.

Bring: Prescription (controlled and non-controlled) and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials, pet medications, v**e pens or other e-cigarette devices (batteries removed).

Do Not Bring: Illegal drugs, needles/sharps, acids, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas), mercury thermometers.

• Participants may dispose of solid, non-liquid medication(s) by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into a disposal box or into a clear sealable plastic bag. Plastic pill containers should not be collected. Blister packages without the medications being removed are acceptable.

• Liquids will be accepted during this initiative. However, the liquids, creams and sprays must be in their original packaging. Liquids without the original packaging will not be accepted.

• Illicit substances such as ma*****na or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers.

Community members are also reminded that many drug disposal boxes are open year-round.
