Today, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and the National Day of Service and Remembrance, we honored the spirit of service by giving back to our community.

As part of United Way of Southwestern Indiana's Day of Caring, City employees and volunteers came together for Block-by-Block in the Glenwood/Culver neighborhood, tackling everything from litter and overgrown yards to potholes and property cleanup. We also marked a milestone in our Fight Blight Initiative with the demolition of the City’s 125th structure.

Since Block-by-Block launched in 2024, we’ve collected over 180,000 pounds of trash, filled 326 potholes, cut more than 189 overgrown yards, and cleaned over 123 properties with trash and debris violations.

This is what happens when we work together, block by block. Thank you to everyone who continues to show up and serve our city.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, a day that forever changed our nation. The City of Evansville remembers the lives lost and honors the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call to serve and protect.

The National Day of Service and Remembrance reminds us that the spirit of service lives on through those who dedicate themselves to helping others and strengthening our communities.

Today, we can honor their memory by carrying that spirit forward through acts of kindness and service, no matter how small.

We're excited to announce the launch of Adopt a Drain, a program to help reduce localized flooding and prevent leaves, litter and other debris from entering the stormwater system.

The program invites community members to take an active role in maintaining storm drains in their neighborhoods and workplaces by keeping them clear of debris, allowing stormwater to flow more freely while helping reduce pollution and protect local waterways.

We’re excited to announce a strategic, multi-year partnership between the City of Evansville, Evansville Fire Department, and Deaconess to support the City’s new fire-based Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system.

Key initiatives include enhanced training opportunities for firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs; the integration of clinical protocols to improve coordination between EMS and hospital-based care; and investments in technology designed to improve responder safety and patient outcomes.

Among the first projects is the accelerated rollout of a station alerting system that routes emergency calls only to the responding station. By reducing unnecessary sleep disruptions for first responders, this technology supports workforce wellness, operational readiness, and improved emergency response.

Through this partnership, Deaconess will provide several hundred thousand dollars in annual support to help build a stronger, more integrated emergency response system for Evansville residents. The investment will also accelerate repayment to the Casino Capital Improvement Fund and strengthen the city’s financial foundation as we continue this important work.

Happy Labor Day!

Today, we recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of workers in our community and across the country.

In observance of Labor Day, City offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7. Regular city services and office hours will resume Tuesday, Sept. 8.

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday.

Today, we joined Community One to celebrate the ribbon cutting of 516 Madison Avenue, a newly rehabilitated home made possible through the efforts of community partners, business and trade partners, volunteers, and so many others.

This project was funded in part through the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and is part of the $4,379,937 the City has committed to housing rehabilitation projects across Evansville.

Projects like these create opportunities, strengthen neighborhoods, and help provide families with a safe, stable place to call home.

We’re proud to celebrate this investment and the partnerships that make a lasting difference in our community.

The City of Evansville is now accepting applications for the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC), a 10-month program for students in grades 8–12. MYAC connects local youth with opportunities for civic engagement, community service, collaboration with community leaders, and meaningful ways to make a difference in local government.
