EPD Continuing Summer “Read to Succeed” Program
The Evansville Police Department is proud to continue its “Read to Succeed” Summer Reading Program throughout Summer 2026, creating opportunities for youth to stay engaged in reading while building positive relationships with law enforcement officers. The program, which began in 2024 through partnerships with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation and Barnes & Noble, focuses on literacy, mentorship, and meaningful community engagement. This summer, reading sessions will take place at several community locations, including:
• Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation,
• Barnes & Noble,
• Little Blondies Playplace,
• Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library,
• and the Boys & Girls Club of Evansville.
The program is expected to reach hundreds of children through more than 20 reading sessions scheduled across the community between June and August. Depending on the location, sessions will range from small group interactions to larger community gatherings.
Through additional support and funding opportunities, the department hopes to provide new books for children to take home and keep, helping encourage continued reading beyond the summer months. Book distribution efforts will focus on locations that allow for more personal interaction and engagement with participating children. The Evansville Police Department believes programs like Read to Succeed help strengthen trust, encourage literacy, and create lasting positive connections between youth and law enforcement.
