USI & UE Army ROTC

USI & UE Army ROTC The official page of U.S. Army USI ROTC Army ROTC is an elective curriculum you take along with your required college classes.

University of Southern Indiana ROTC leads and trains cadets from the University of Southern Indiana, University of Evansville, and Vincennes University to meet the Army's leadership requirements to commission as 2nd Lieutenants in the United States Army, Army Reserves, or the National Guard. The University of Southern Indiana is an extension center of the Wabash Battalion 7th Brigade Cadet Command

US Army. The Wabash Battalion host school is Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology where they also have Indiana State University, Depauw University, and Saint Mary's of the Woods as a part of the Battalion of Cadets. It prepares you with the tools, training and experiences that will help you succeed in any competitive environment. Along with great leadership training, Army ROTC can pay for your college tuition, too. You will have a normal college student experience like everyone else on campus, but when you graduate, you will be an officer in the United States Army. Fall FTX
Fall FTX, conducted at CAIN, Camp Atterbury and evaluates land navigation skill proficiency, introduces cadets to the Situational Training Exercise (STX) at the squad level. Spring FTX
Spring FTX, conducted at Camp Atterbury, IN, is the final proving ground for cadets bound for Advanced Camp. Platoon size STX lanes are conducted and evaluated identical to what the cadet will experience at Advanced Camp. Basic Course Cadets complete a confidence course, an obstacle course, and a paintball battle day. Once again, land navigation skills are tested both day and night. Variable lanes are also included, offering a cange from the standard STX lanes. Every Army ROTC Cadet who enters into the Advanced Course attends this evaluation for branching points. It's a four-week summer course to evaluate and train all Army ROTC Cadets from around the US. This course normally takes place between your junior and senior years of college, and is conducted at Fort Knox Kentucky. Those who attend Advanced Camp at the end of their senior year of college will receive their commission into either the Army, the Army Reserves, or the National Guard.

We’re back!! Our Cadet of the Week is Cadet Hollis. He is an MSI this year!

“Hello, my name is Josiah S. Hollis and I’m enrolled in the ROTC program here at the University of Southern Indiana. I am from Indianapolis, IN and I’m planning on graduating with a degree in Mechanical Industrial and hopefully will find a job as a weapons engineer following completion of College. Before coming here to USI, I underwent Basic Combat Training, which I graduated on 23rd of October 2020, as well as Advanced Individual Training where I graduated Honor Graduate on 17th February 2021 as a 94A. Transition from that to the ROTC program has not been that much of a transition and actually has improved my military career. It has pushed me to further my journey with physical fitness to a point that I had not thought possible and cannot wait to see the transformation by the end of this semester.”

Hey hey hey! It’s our Cadet of the Week! Cadet Barske is a MSII this year! Always motivated and killing it.

“My name is John Tristan Barske and I am majoring in electrical engineering. I am from Brownsburg, Indiana and I’ve been living there for seven years. My plans and achievements during school is to get through my classes with passing grades and I wish to succeed in the ROTC program. I want to compete in Ranger Challenge for three years and I have completed the Norwegian Foot March. After school, I want to commission as an officer in the National Guard. I am in the ROTC program because it is helping me pay for school and I hope to achieve bigger things in my life. This affects my life because it opens more opportunities for me in my future.”

Happy Wednesday! Our Cadet of the Week is Cadet Chamberlain. He is a MSIII this year! Killing it!!

“My name is Cory Chamberlain. My military career began in December of 2008 when I raised my right hand. I spent 7 years at D-Co 1-151 as a heavy weapons gunner in the Indiana Army National Guard. When I got out in 2015 it was not long after I felt a part of me was missing. After finally reenlisting in May of 2020 I started to feel that spark come back. With rediscovered motivation, I decided to return to USI, not only to finish my Biology degree but to also become an officer by joining the ROTC program. I knew my goals were ambitious, and that to reach them was going to require a great deal of hard work and sacrifice. Now, as I look forward with graduation in sight, I also look back and see how far I have come. The ROTC program has helped to reignite my ambition and motivate me to rise and meet my own potential. As I continue to move forward beyond graduation, I plan to go to medical school and become a physician in the Army National Guard.”

Cadet Rawlins is our Cadet of the Week! She is a MSI one this semester!

“My name is Kayla Rawlins. I’m from Shelbyville, Indiana and attending USI to get a bachelors degree in Marketing.
I received the Harolyn Torrain Multicultural Leader Scholarship along with a 3-year ROTC National Scholarship. I aim to commission into the active duty Army after getting my bachelors degree. I had been debating on how I could serve in the military while focusing on my education when I received a call about the ROTC program here at USI. Joining has given me a group of people that push me to be my best and taught me so much about what the army is about, what leadership means, and what I’m capable of. I’m proud to be part of the program and excited to see where it takes me.”
