YWCA Evansville 24 / 7 Crisis Line
Shelter, Advocacy and Supportive Services
After-School Programming and Mentoring The YWCA of Evansville, IN, was established in 1911.

Our original purpose was to provide safe, affordable housing for women who were coming from the country and outlying towns for employment in mills and factories. We've altered our programs over the years to meet the changing needs of women and children in our area, but our mission of offering a safe haven to women and children is as enduring as it was from day one. Our programs focus on upward mob

ility and self-sufficiency through addressing emergency needs first, determining barriers to independence, helping clients create goals to overcome those barriers, providing support and case management through times of crisis and transition, and connecting clients to community resources that can maximize their success. Current programs at the YWCA include a domestic violence shelter; an emergency housing program for women and children; the YES! (YWCA Embracing Sobriety)program, a long-term residential program for homeless women recovering from substance abuse; and Live Y'ers, our after-school and mentoring program for vulnerable youth. Additional services include initiatives related to furthering women's economic empowerment and racial justice. Through our financial literacy classes with residents and the public, and events such as Equal Pay Day, Stand Against Racism, and others, we are known advocates for these topics in our area. The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. The YWCA envisions a healthy community transformed by racial and gender equality, where women and girls, particularly those of color, have equal access to opportunity, and there is social justice for all people. We won't stop until the world sees women, girls and people of color the way we do -- Equal. Powerful. Unstoppable.

Proud to stand alongside these incredible YWCA CEOs from South Bend, Lafayette, Muncie and Gary as part of the Indiana YWCA Collective here in Scottsdale, Arizona at the YWCA USA Leadership Summit. Today, we had the opportunity to present to peers from across the country about the power of collaboration and the transformative work happening through our Lilly Endowment-supported initiatives.

What makes this work so meaningful is that we are proving that when organizations come together sharing ideas, resources, strategies, and vision we can strengthen not only our individual YWCAs, but the entire movement. From leadership development and sustainability planning to innovative approaches that strengthen services for women, children, and families, this collaboration is helping position Indiana YWCAs for long-term impact.

Grateful for the chance to represent Indiana, learn from other leaders across the nation, and continue building partnerships that advance peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

— Erika Taylor, YWCA Evansville CEO

Each year, our Grant a YWish campaign has supported a specific project - something visible, something tangible. From a new roof or kitchen to critical building repairs, your generosity has helped us care for the physical space that houses our mission.

This year, our focus is different.
This year, our call is to Keep the Promise.

For more than a century, YWCA Evansville has made a promise to this community: to be a place of safety, healing, and opportunity for women, children, and families.

Today, that promise is at risk. Funding is becoming more uncertain, and the cost of providing essential services continues to rise. The greatest need we face is not a single project. It is the ability to sustain the work itself.

Your support helps us keep that promise. It ensures that our doors remain open, our staff remain in place, and our programs continue to serve those who need us most.

It means safety for someone fleeing violence.
Stability for a woman rebuilding her life in recovery.
Opportunity for a child discovering their potential.

People like you make this possible.

We invite you to stand with us - to Keep the Promise and ensure that YWCA Evansville is here, showing up when it matters most.

What an unforgettable evening!

Our 35th Annual Tribute to Achievement Dinner was a beautiful celebration of leadership, resilience, and community impact.

We were honored to recognize Indiana State Senator Vaneta Becker, whose remarkable life story and decades of service embody perseverance, public service, and the power of mentorship. From humble beginnings to becoming a respected leader in our state, her journey is truly inspiring.

We also proudly celebrated our 2026 Berkley Ann Branson Young Women of Promise Scholarship recipients. Their determination and bright futures remind us why this work matters.

To our sponsors, donors, guests, bakers, volunteers, board members, and everyone who helped make this evening so special - "thank you!" Your generosity helps YWCA Evansville continue empowering individuals, strengthening families, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

Enjoy these special moments from a truly meaningful night!

We are incredibly grateful to Team McClintock of FC Tucker for generously adopting a room in the YWCA Evansville domestic violence shelter and turning it into a beautiful, comforting space for survivors and their children.

When families arrive at our shelter, they are often carrying fear, uncertainty, and trauma. The environment they enter matters deeply. Because of Team McClintock’s kindness and vision, one of our shelter rooms has been transformed into a warm, peaceful place that offers not just safety, but comfort, dignity, and hope.

These beautiful photos tell the story better than words ever could. 💜

Thank you, Team McClintock, for investing in healing and reminding survivors that they are worthy of care, comfort, and a fresh start.
