Did you know Evansville was once known as the “Refrigerator Capital of the World”? In the early 1900s, companies like Servel made the city a national leader in refrigerator manufacturing, employing thousands of workers and helping shape Evansville’s industrial legacy. At one point, refrigerators built here were found in homes across America.

Did you know Ellis Park, just south of Evansville, is one of the oldest continuously operating horse racing tracks in the country?
Originally called Dade Park, it has been a beloved summer tradition for generations. Opened in 1922 just across the river from Evansville, the track quickly became a major destination for horse racing, drawing crowds from throughout the Tri-State for exciting races, social gatherings, and community events.
Today, Ellis Park continues that legacy nearly a century later, serving as both a piece of living history and a reminder of how important entertainment, sports, and community traditions are to the story of the Evansville area.
