🚑 You might have heard noticed something new from our recent job posting announcement…

⚡️ Vanderburgh County Fire Department is proud to announce that new LIFEPAK 35 cardiac monitor/defibrillators have been deployed in our ambulances across the county — replacing our LIFEPAK 15s that have served our crews for years.

If you’ve ever seen a paramedic working on a patient in the back of an ambulance, there’s a good chance you’ve seen one of these devices. Cardiac monitors are the cornerstone of our Advanced Life Support care — they allow our paramedics to monitor a patient’s heart rhythm in real time, deliver a life-saving shock if needed, transmit a 12-lead ECG to the hospital before the patient even arrives, and help guide treatment decisions from the moment we make contact. In short, when someone is having a heart attack or other cardiac emergency, this is one of the most critical pieces of equipment on the truck.

The LIFEPAK 35 is the newest generation of this technology — a complete redesign built for the demands of modern prehospital care.

Here’s what it brings to our patients:

❤️ cprINSIGHT Technology — adds the ability to analyze a heart rhythm without stopping CPR, meaning fewer interruptions and aiming for better outcomes during cardiac arrest

📲 Larger, high-definition touchscreen — clearer data, faster navigation, better support for critical patient encounters

📊 LIVE 12 and 15-lead ECG — gives our paramedics and receiving hospitals a more complete picture of what’s happening with a patient’s heart, as opposed to previously relying on a snapshot printout

Our LP15s were reliable workhorses, but like any equipment, they have a service lifespan. Investing in the LP35 keeps our crews on the leading edge of prehospital cardiac care, and allows VCFD’s medical response capabilities to remain top-notch.

This upgrade is only possible because of the community we serve. Your support — through our fire territory funding and the trust you extend to us — is what puts tools like this on our trucks, and we don’t take that responsibility lightly.

When seconds matter, you deserve the best 💙

*** TRAFFIC ALERT ***

Update as of 12:20 - E. BNH Rd. is now OPEN, Bataan Ln. remains blocked due to downed communication lines pending ATT response team repair, response ETA of 1pm.

VCFD crews have been blocking E. BNH Rd. due to a downed power line from a truck strike late this morning. While blocking this hazard, crews encountered a driver who appeared to be impaired and disregarded blocking apparatus, necessitating the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office to have to respond to scene.

Please use caution whenever you see downed power/communication lines! Even comm lines can become be energized and dangerous when dislodged from their mounting brackets.

What do you wish your morning apparatus checks looked like?

At Vanderburgh County Fire Department, our medics don't just respond — they respond equipped. Our rigs carry gear you might only expect to see at a trauma center or on a trade show floor: LIFEPAK 35, LUCAS 3, Butterfly iQ point-of-care ultrasound, and OneView video laryngoscopy.

This isn't a wish list. This is Tuesday.

We invest in our tools because we invest in our people — and because the patients we serve deserve nothing less. This loadout is standard issue on VCFD medic units, and even more tools are coming down the pipeline soon...🩸

If you're a paramedic looking for a department that gives you the means to take the clinical side as seriously as the fire side, this is it.

🚜🌱 If you’ve been out and about at all this week in the rural parts of the county, then you know It’s planting season in Vanderburgh County and our local farmers are hard at work!

Obviously this means more tractors and large farm equipment on our narrow roads. Similar to our fire engines, these vehicles require extra space and often need portions of both lanes to navigate safely.

🚒 Our crews have witnessed several close calls over the past few days, so we wanted to reinforce some safety tips to use while navigating around these trucks and tractors.

If you come across one:
• Slow down and be patient 🧘
• Only pass when you have a clear, long line of sight, and don’t pass on curves or hills
• Watch for wide turns, especially into fields
• Give them plenty of space (and bonus points if you can pull off onto a road shoulder or driveway entrance to help them pass you!)

A little patience goes a long way in keeping everyone safe. Help us look out for each other and our farming community this spring. 🚜👍🏼🚒

🎓 She’s been putting in the work — and now it’s official!

K9 Ember graduated today from Tri-State K-9 University after 25 intensive weeks of training classes, earning her K9 Angels Therapy Dog certification and solidifying her place in the VCFD family. 🐕‍🦺

If you’ve seen her out in the community, you already know the warmth and support that she brings everywhere she goes. Full certification means she’ll have even more opportunities to be there for children at emergency scenes, support our firefighters, comfort those in need, and help kids learn about fire safety.

VCFD is proud of you, K9 Ember! Keep up the good work. 🐾🚒

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our active-duty members.

After 45 years of service to the fire service and the citizens of our community, Deputy Chief David Edmondson passed away peacefully at home yesterday surrounded by his loved ones. Throughout his career, he exemplified professionalism, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others. His decades of service reflect a lifetime devoted to this profession and the people we serve.

Deputy Chief Edmondson was not only a respected leader but also a mentor, friend, and brother to many within our organization. His experience, knowledge, and leadership helped shape our department and the members who had the privilege of serving alongside him. He also demonstrated incredible strength and resilience through his courageous battle with cancer, facing it with the same determination and character that defined his career.

During this difficult time, please keep the Edmondson family in your thoughts and prayers. We will share additional information regarding arrangements and opportunities for members to pay their respects as soon as it becomes available.

On behalf of the entire Vanderburgh County Fire Department, we extend our deepest condolences to the Edmondson family and honor the decades of service and sacrifice he gave to the fire service.
