The City of Evansville is now accepting applications for the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC), a 10-month program for students in grades 8–12. MYAC connects local youth with opportunities for civic engagement, community service, collaboration with community leaders, and meaningful ways to make a difference in local government. Their languages, cultures, traditions, and lived experiences bring diverse perspectives, ways of thinking, and ways of knowing that enrich our classrooms and communities. When we recognize and value what multilingual learners bring, rather than focusing only on what they are still developing, we create learning environments where every student can contribute, connect, and thrive.

Even some adults find that writing is challenging. Now imagine children. Now imagine a child who is learning to write in a language they are still acquiring. 🤯

It isn’t always easy to start writing in a new language.

Here are some suggestions for supporting Multilingual Learners with writing. Of course, there are many more things we can do-but this is a start.
