Evanston Fire Department

Evanston Fire Department Official page of the Evanston Fire Department. Social Media Policy: https://bit.ly/47kKYxc We have five fire stations located throughout the City.

Our goal is to prevent fires and life-loss through the finest in fire protection, rescue, emergency medical services, and fire prevention services. The fire stations are staffed 24 hours a day/365 days a year. These stations house five fire engines, two ladder trucks, two ambulances, and a Command Vehicle. We have two reserve fire engines, one reserve ladder truck, and a reserve ambulance. The maj

ority of our members are certified paramedics in addition to being firefighters. Besides staffing two Advanced Life-Support Ambulances, every engine and ladder truck company is equipped with Advanced Life-Support equipment. This means as soon as an engine or ladder truck arrives, it can begin life-saving treatment even before the ambulance arrives. Through the overall efforts of the City to support Fire and Life Safety Services, property owners enjoy insurance premium benefits of an Insurance Services Office (ISO) fire protection "Class 1” rating.

Thanks go to FF/PM Cvikota and Division Chief Kull for their hard work in planning this drill. Thanks also to the Vineyard Church for allowing us to utilize their facilities.

Evanston Fire Department paramedics sharpened critical life-saving skills through training in airway and trauma management. Crews practiced needle decompression for life-threatening chest injuries, surgical cricothyrotomy for emergency airway access when traditional methods fail, and advanced airway management using the SALAD (Suction-Assisted Laryngoscopy and Airway Decontamination) technique. Special thanks to Dr. Ducanto and Dr. Wells for serving as guest instructors and sharing their wealth of knowledge, experience, and valuable airway management tips!

These high-acuity, low-frequency procedures require continual training to ensure our paramedics are prepared to act quickly and effectively when seconds count. Through realistic scenarios and repetitive skill practice, our members maintain the knowledge, confidence, and proficiency needed to provide the highest level of care to our community.

The Lifeguard Academy is officially in session!

Many returning lifeguards have already completed the program, while other new recruits are still putting in the work. Throughout the Academy, participants will train in lifeguarding skills, American Red Cross CPR/AED, physical conditioning, classroom instruction, and critical response preparation. The Academy is designed to challenge recruits both mentally and physically every single day. Hard work, teamwork, and dedication are all part of becoming a professional lifeguard ready to serve our community safely this summer.

Keep up the great work!
