LOCATED: Avila was located unharmed and reunited with his family.

Evanston Police are asking for your help locating Jose Avila, an 85-year-old man, who was reported missing on Oct. 22. He has not been located or contacted. Avila’s family has concerns about his memory, and he may need medical assistance.

Avila was last seen walking east on Foster St passing Fleetwood Jourdain around 8:16 a.m. He was using a pink-colored walker, wearing a navy coat and a black hat as depicted in the photo.

Avila is a Hispanic male, 5 feet, 2 inches tall, approximately 140 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. He is a Spanish-speaker.

If you see Avila or have information about his whereabouts, please call 911 or contact the Evanston Police Department at 847-866-5000.

🎉 Congratulations to Commander Jodie Hart on his retirement from the Evanston Police Department after 25 years of dedicated service!

Commander Hart joined EPD September 5th, 2001 and has spent his career serving the department in a variety of roles. Throughout the years, he served as a Field Training Officer, dedicating countless hours to training and mentoring new recruits as they began their law enforcement careers. He also served as a detective with the Tactical Team and in Investigations. As a Sergeant, he worked in the Office of Professional Standards and the Neighborhood Enforcement Team. His most recent assignment has been Patrol Commander.

In addition to his various assignments, Commander Hart has contributed to the department in many other ways. He served on the Honor Guard and the Awards Committee and has overseen the EPD Fitness Program for many years. Through these roles, he has continued to support his fellow officers and contribute to the department beyond his daily responsibilities.

Commander Hart is known for being a fair and compassionate leader who has earned the respect of those who have had the opportunity to work alongside him and serve under his leadership. His commitment to the department, his support of his colleagues, and the relationships he has built throughout his career are an important part of his legacy at EPD.

Thank you, Jodie, for your years of service to the Evanston community, the Evanston Police Department, and the men and women of EPD.

Thank you for your dedication, leadership, friendship, and the many contributions you have made throughout your career. Your presence and experience will surely be missed.

We wish Commander Hart best wishes as he begins this next chapter of retirement.

PROTECT YOUR VEHICLE! REGISTER FOR OUR CATALYTIC CONVERTER MARKING EVENT

The Evanston Police Department is continuing its efforts to help residents protect their vehicles through another Catalytic Converter Marking Event.

In partnership with Jiffy L**e, we're inviting community members to take a proactive step toward protecting their vehicles by having their catalytic converters marked. Marking a catalytic converter can help law enforcement identify stolen parts, discourage theft, and make it more difficult for thieves to sell them. While marking cannot guarantee theft prevention, it provides an additional layer of protection.

If you've been saying, "Oh I missed it!" or "I forgot to stop by!", here is your chance to take advantage of this free event."

After coming together for the Special Olympics Plane Pull, the Evanston Police Department is keeping the momentum going with our inaugural Keys for a Cause fundraiser.

Join us on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Double Clutch Brewing Company, 2121 Ashland Avenue, for an evening of live music, great company, and community spirit in support of an incredible cause.

Admission is just $20 at the door, with food and beverages available for purchase.

Bring your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors! Whether you're coming for the music, the atmosphere, or simply to support a worthy cause, we'd love to see you there.

GAME OF THE CENTURY… (PLUS 13 YEARS!)

Tomorrow, Friday, October 16 at 7pm, the Evanston Wildkits will take on the New Trier Trevians at the brand-new Ryan Field!

With a big game comes big game-day traffic and we want everyone to note that a full game-day traffic plan will be in effect!

Residents, visitors, and football fans should expect traffic and parking restrictions similar to those implemented during Northwestern University football games.

PLEASE PLAN AHEAD:

*Read ALL posted parking and traffic signs. Restrictions will be enforced, and violations may result in citations or towing.

**Expect increased traffic, congestion, and possible road restrictions around the stadium.

***Allow extra travel time and follow the directions of traffic control personnel.

****Consider biking or public transportation! Take the Metra or CTA Purple Line ("L") to Central Street and walk to Ryan Field.

Whether you're attending the game or simply traveling through the area, we encourage everyone to plan ahead, be patient, and help keep our streets safe.
