This afternoon, I recommended to the County Commissioners that Fire Restrictions be implemented for Uinta County. This decision is not taken lightly, but it is necessary for the safety of our community.
As we move through the rest of the week, our area is under Red Flag Warnings. We are facing record‑level heat, persistent winds, very low humidity, and no measurable moisture in the forecast. These conditions create extreme fire danger, and combined with the fire activity we’ve already seen this season, the risk is simply too high to continue without additional precautions.
A copy of the restrictions will be posted in the comments. This partial fire closure still allows refuse burning (in unincorporated Uinta County) between 6 PM and 8 AM, as long as it is done in containers with spark arresters and with a properly cleared radius. Backyard campfires remain permitted in approved fire pits, provided the yard is maintained and water is immediately accessible.
Fireworks are strictly prohibited, along with ditch burning, slash pile burning, and the use of fire for land cleanup. Please review the full resolution in the comments for all permitted and prohibited activities.
Your cooperation is essential. With conditions this dry, even a small spark can become a fast‑moving wildfire. I appreciate everyone’s understanding and willingness to help protect our county during this period of heightened danger.
These restrictions go into effect at 12:01AM on March 18th.
