Please stay tuned with the city website and new outlets reference snow emergencies being issued. At this time there is no snow emergency issued in the city of Evansdale. Sorry for the confusion.

We are currently in a blizzard warning and as it has gotten closer, the warnings have increase in area. This has taken us out of the outer lines and into the middle. I can assume that we will not luck out by a shift in the storm at this point. Please do not travel as it will be very difficult, dangerous, and tow bans will likely be issued.

I hope this is the last time we have to have this discussion for many months, December 24th would be alright with me. We are ready for green grass and full trees (minus the wind of course).

These days, if someone is asking for any information or money, no matter who they are, hang up and find a legit number to call back to see if there is any business to be handled that is legit.

Also I've been on this planet for a while now, and never ever paid a bill with gift cards, bitcoin, or putting cash in a box and sending it.

SCAM ALERT

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office has had numerous reports from citizens receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be with the Sheriff's Office. In most cases they are stating that they are Deputy Holbach or other Deputies.

The caller is informing people they will be arrested on some type of warrant if they don't pay a fine or post a bond, then they direct the person to pay by an unconventional means such as with gift cards, depositing money into a cryptocurrency account, or meeting them at a location other than the Sheriff's Office.

We will never ask you to pay a fine or bond in this manner, nor will we ask for any personal information over the phone. Some of the callers have been able to set their Caller ID up to read "Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office" so it may look legitimate.

If you receive a call from the Sheriff's Office for a legitimate purpose, we won't be offended if you confirm it's us. We would rather you do this than see you fall victim to a scam artist who is trying to prey on you! -Sheriff Nathan Neff

2025 OFFICER OF THE YEAR.

This years award goes to Officer Dalton Epley.

Officer Epley was hired on to our team in 2022. Since then he has shown a level of commitment to this profession that is worthy of an award.

Officer Epley is dedicated, professional, and prompt, when it comes to the work he does. Whether it is a case he is given or a traffic stop he is conducting, we know the level of professionalism will exceed expectations.

In 2025, Officer Epley handled 1,137 calls for service, 589 of them being traffic stops. 30 of these traffic stops the driver was determined to be impaired. Officer Epley is making a difference on our roadways. He is making your commute safer by him being proactive.

Officer Epley is currently a state certified instructor for defensive tactics. We look forward for him to guide and teach our department in the skills he has learned. This skill set is being taught at a national level in order to keep us and the public safe, using the least amount of force possible to obtain compliance.

We thank Officer Epley for his service and we are glad he chose Evansdale Police Department as his home. We look forward to what Officer Epley will achieve and accomplish throughout his career.
