Toy Story 5 is coming to the Black River Drive In! If you are going to see the movie, consider seeing it at the Drive In. Each year they donate the use of their facility for our One School One Book night at the movies and seeing Toy Story (or any other movie) here would be a great thank you to them!

This afternoon we celebrated our third grade students as they get ready to make the transition from EMPS to the Indian River Intermediate School.

When we think about success in school, it is easy to focus on grades, test scores, and awards. While those things can be important, what makes us most proud is something much bigger: growth.

Growth happens when a student tackles a difficult math problem and refuses to give up. It happens when a reader chooses a more challenging book. It happens when a writer learns to organize their thoughts, when a classmate offers help to a friend, and when a child learns from mistakes instead of being discouraged by them.

The growth that these kids have made in their time at EMPS is amazing and is thanks to our strong school community partnership: parents, teachers, support staff, and a hard working group of kids.

Shout out to our cafeteria staff who wheeled in cake pops and brownies at the end of our awards!

At tonight’s Board of Education meeting, EMPS received a thank you note from the students of Miss Scott and Mrs. Morris at Antwerp Primary.

Earlier this year, Antwerp Primary school suddenly lost classroom teacher Miss Scott and school counselor Mr. Young. With a donation from EMPS, Antwerp Primary planted a tree in their memory.

Our School Resource Officer, Deputy Young has been busy over the last 6 weeks stopping into our classrooms to read the book "Police in Our Schools" by Lieutenant Becky Coyle.

This book was written by a SRO and teaches kids about the important role our SROs play to protect them and our school.

Students had the opportunity to ask Deputy Young questions like "how do you keep us safe?" "I come to your school to make sure everything is safe and to practice our safety drills" and "Why do you wear so many things?" "These are the tools of my job and I use them help me keep you safe."

He shared with them how our local Law Enforcement Officers work together by radioing into dispatch demonstrate that they can talk to each other even if they're far away.

We are lucky to have two School Resource officers in partnership with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Deputy Young and Deputy Morrow work to keep students and staff safe at each of our eight school buildings.

Thanks Deputy!

Our five classes of second graders have been collaborating on a Civic Participation project. Since they began the project, they learned about what it means to make a difference, how to check playgrounds for safety, how to make recommendations, and how to put it all together into a presentation to use their voices.

This morning, they hosted a "Town Hall" event for the Village of Evans Mills Mayor Mr. Boucher, IRCSD Superintendent Mr. Decker, Assistant Superintendent Mrs. Matteson, Curriculum Director Mrs. Culbertson, IRCSD Board of Education member Mrs. Tuttle, and our building principal Mrs. McCullouch.

In their presentation, students shared their observations about the Jack Williams Park; what they love about it, what needs some work, how they can help, and ways to make it a better place for our community. We are SO proud of the work these students, their teachers, and district Science/Social Studies coach Mrs. Trickey on this project.

We ran into technical difficulties while recording the presentation and will record next week to share so that their ideas can reach a wider audience.
