We're going to be straightforward with you, because you deserve to know what's happening in our community.

Predators are targeting kids on the apps your children use every day — gaming platforms, social media, messaging apps. They pose as peers, earn trust, then demand photos or money and threaten to go public if they don't get it. Victims are as young as 10. Most are too ashamed to tell anyone.

It's called sextortion. It's real. It's local.

If your child is targeted:

🔴 Don't delete anything

🔴 Don't pay — it doesn't stop

🔴 Call us — your child is not in trouble. The predator is.

It’s not too late!

Come out to Metamora Township High School tomorrow evening at 6 PM for an opportunity to hear our deputies and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office speak about technology, its impact on our youth, and equip you with some tools to help combat the threats we face each day online.

This event is open to everyone, not just parents and school staff! We hope to see you there!

On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office took Brian D Rafferty into custody in Germantown Hills. This individual traveled from Northern Illinois to meet who he believed to be a 15-year-old female. When he arrived, he encountered members of the WCSO Proactive Unit’s Predator Apprehension Team and was taken into custody without incident.

As a reminder to the public, these operations are thoroughly planned in advance and executed by minimizing all risk to the public. We utilize extensive surveillance to ensure these meeting locations are safe. Generally, these individuals are not from within Woodford County and we are doing everything we can to keep the citizens of our county safe!

We would like to add a reminder to these predators trying to prey on teenage children. If you prey on our children, we will make you this promise: You will be arrested, we will seize your vehicle and we will not only find you temporary housing in our county jail but will work to get you permanent housing within the Illinois Department of Corrections Facilities.

This arrest marks number 20 in the last 6 months by the Predator Apprehension Team. As always, we appreciate your support as we continue to battle the threat of these online predators!
