The Rockwood Board of Education held its first Student Advisory Group meeting of the 2026-2027 school year Sept. 3 at the Administrative Annex, before the regularly scheduled Board meeting.

An initiative of the Board's Communications, Outreach and Public Engagement (COPE) Committee, the Student Advisory Group consists of juniors and seniors from Eureka, Lafayette, Marquette and Rockwood Summit high schools and the Pathways Wellness Center. Group meetings are opportunities for Board members to connect with, and hear directly from, Rockwood students.

Thank you to our students for participating and sharing your thoughts!

Lights, camera, forecast! 🎬☀️

Fox 2 Meteorologist Jaime Travers stopped by Kehrs Mill Elementary on Sept. 3 to film her fall weather special with our first-graders! Our young meteorologists-in-training shared their favorite seasons and discussed weather extremes, explaining why PE and recess sometimes need to move indoors. Be sure to tune in and watch Fox 2 on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 9:30 p.m.

Check out a few sneak-peek photos from the shoot below, and don't forget to share this with family and friends! 👇📺

DID YOU KNOW? If you are driving on a two-lane road, with or without a middle turning lane (including a two-lane road that is a one-way street), all drivers must stop their vehicle for a bus picking up or dropping off students, regardless of direction. Wait until the lights stop flashing, the extended stop arm is withdrawn and the bus begins moving before you can start driving again.

On a four-lane road, with a turning lane between, only vehicles traveling in the same direction as the school bus are required to stop. Vehicles traveling in the opposite direction are not required to stop but should still use caution in the event children run across the road.

BE SAFE and STOP for stopped school buses.

DID YOU KNOW? Governor Kehoe signed an executive order in January directing the State Board of Education to have the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education develop an annual A-F school and district grading framework for the Board's consideration and adoption. This is in addition to MSIP-6, the current state accountability and accreditation system DESE uses to evaluate, review and accredit public school districts. The framework will assign a letter grade to every public school and district in the state.

Now that the framework has been developed, DESE has invited the public to learn more about the plan and provide feedback during two in-person and one virtual session on Sept. 9, 10 and 11.

REMINDER: Rockwood will conduct a test of its emergency notification system for community members tomorrow evening: Wednesday, Sept. 9.

We want to be sure our community members are informed of school cancellations due to inclement weather or in case of emergency. The annual test of our automatic notification system ensures Rockwood has accurate contact information for families. A phone message will be sent as part of the test, along with a text, ParentSquare app notification and email message.
