Today, Mayor Kim Bergel welcomed the Sri Chinmoy Peace Runners to Eureka at City Hall and joined them for part of their journey, carrying the Peace Torch through the city. The group presented the Mayor and the City of Eureka with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of their support. Mayor Bergel has welcomed the Peace Runners to Eureka in previous years, and today marked the first time she did so as Mayor.

The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run is a global torch relay that provides participants and communities around the world an opportunity to express their shared aspiration for peace. The runners, who came from countries across the globe, shared how much they enjoyed running through the redwoods and experiencing the beauty of our region.

While Mental Health Awareness Month may have ended in May, the conversation doesn't stop there.

Last month, approximately 50–60 community members gathered for Eureka's Community Health Town Hall, "Wait… Why Did I Do That? Turning Brain Science into Real-Life Resilience." Attendees learned how the brain responds to stress and trauma, explored practical tools for building resilience, and engaged in meaningful discussions about mental health and well-being.

This event was a collaboration between Crisis Alternative Response of Eureka (CARE) and Mayor Kim Bergel’s Mental Health Initiative, launched in 2023 to promote awareness, reduce stigma, and connect community members with valuable resources.

Thank you to our speaker, Rick Griffin of Neuro Leadership Academy, and everyone who attended, participated, and helped make this conversation possible.

Did you know the City of Eureka offers free water usage monitoring and leak alerts through EyeOnWater?

One of the biggest benefits of EyeOnWater is the ability to catch possible leaks early, often within 24 hours, instead of waiting until the next billing cycle. Early leak detection can help prevent unexpectedly high water bills and wasted water.

With EyeOnWater, you can:
- Monitor your water usage anytime
- View hourly and long-term usage trends
- Receive text or email leak alerts
- Spot unusual water use that may indicate a leak

Common hidden leaks include running toilets, irrigation leaks, dripping faucets, and broken water lines.
