Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Coast

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Coast Our vision is that all youth achieve their full potential. We believe that every child deserves the chance to succeed!
(1)

Our mission is to build and support one-to-one relationships to ignite the biggest possible futures for youth. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Coast was founded in 1969 as a non-profit organization with the purpose of forming meaningful relationships between caring, responsible adults and disadvantaged children through one-to-one matches; today BBBS is the premier mentoring organization in t

he North Coast region. Studies have shown that children who have the support and friendship of an adult role model are more likely to stay in school, have better relationships with adults and peers, and have higher self-esteem.

We know times are tough for everyone right now.

Like many local nonprofits, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Coast has faced significant financial challenges this year. Unfortunately, we have lost over $80,000 in funding. The loss of these resources has been detrimental to our mission.

Despite these setbacks, our goal remains the same: to continue matching Bigs and Littles, because every child deserves someone in their corner. Each match costs nearly $3,000 from start to finish, and without critical funding, sustaining this life-changing work is becoming increasingly difficult. With Littles still waiting to be matched, we urgently need funding to ensure every child in our program receives the support they deserve and continues to thrive in the Humboldt community we’re so proud to be a part of.

Please consider donating today and help us continue this essential work. Every dollar stays local; 100% of this funding goes directly to serving Humboldt youth.

Here is our online donation link (no fees are taken, we receive every dollar): https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/0cf0ed90-e6d9-4f74-9d1c-01b99c81a429

Each year, our Littles are invited into Shop with a Cop β€” an opportunity rooted in connection, care, and belonging. Being included in moments like this gives our Littles the chance to feel supported by their community and experience positive, meaningful interactions with first responders.

We’re grateful to be part of a tradition that continues to make space for our Littles, especially during a season that can be both joyful and hard. πŸ’š

Saturday was a reminder of how meaningful it is when young people are supported in the things they love. Thanks to , our Littles were able to engage in their passion for skating, without barriers in the way.

Moments like this create space for confidence, joy, and growth β€” the kind that happens when youth feel encouraged to show up as themselves and explore what excites them. We’re grateful to share experiences like this with community partners who continue to make access and connection possible. πŸ›ΉπŸ’š

This weekend’s Matching Mixer felt extra special thanks to the beautiful setting provided by Friends of the Dunes at the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center. Our Bigs and Littles-in-waiting spent the afternoon exploring the dunes, creating crafts, and connecting in a space that encouraged curiosity and comfort. πŸŒΏπŸ’š

A Matching Mixer is a relaxed gathering where enrolling Bigs and Littles can meet informally and see who they naturally gravitate toward. It helps us learn more about each person and identify pairings that have the potential to grow into strong, successful matches.

We’re excited to share that three potential matches emerged from this event β€” stay tuned to see these connections grow into official matches! ✨
