Tonight we were able to go familiarize ourselves with a couple local grain bins. Grain engulfment rescue is another very important skill in our rural communities.

One of our newer fire fighters quickly learned that he should have followed my suggestion and wore his coat and gloves while saving a scared kitten from up in a tree.

A nice evening to keep caught up on our extraction skills. With the ever changing ways that cars are being built to be safer, we continue to train and stay aware of new techniques.

We annually test all the hose on the city fire trucks. Engine #113 has 400 ft of 1 3/4" hose and 650 ft of 2 1/2" hose that we test at 250 psi for 5 minutes. It also has 800 ft of 5" hose that we test at 200 psi for 5 minutes.

Just a friendly reminder to please be aware of the potential hazards of space heaters and other alternative heat sources during this cold weather. Confined spaces, electrical overload, and many other hazards can cause fires and health issues.

Eureka Fire Department and Greenwood Co Fire Department participated in a Grain Engulfment Training on Saturday, Dec 6th. The training was taught by KU Fire And Rescue Training Institute. We learned operations and techniques to remove trapped victims from grain engulfment incidents.

Come out and join us!

On Thursday, Sept. 11 at 6 a.m., members of the Eureka Fire Department (EFD) and Greenwood County Fire Department - Central Division will gather at the EFD station, in honor of Patriot Day. Members plan to walk to Greenwood County Hospital, in full gear, in memory of those that lost their lives on 9/11/01.

The public is invited to join the firefighters as the honor those lives that were lost on 9/11.
