I am truly humbled and grateful to the people of Eunice for the trust you have placed in me once again. Serving as your Municipal Judge has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I’m deeply thankful for the opportunity to continue that service.

I also want to thank my opponent for stepping forward to serve our community. It takes dedication and courage to run for public office, and Eunice is better for having citizens who care enough to get involved.

As I begin this new term, I remain committed to ensuring our court is a place of integrity, compassion, and equal justice for all. Together, we will continue to build a community rooted in fairness and respect.

Thank you again for your confidence and support. It is an honor to serve you.

Your Judge,
Carlton Glen Jenkins

Visited the library this morning for the children’s reading class, it was great seeing all the kids dressed up in their Halloween costumes!

It’s always a joy to watch our young readers having fun while learning. Moments like these remind me how important it is to support our local library and encourage a love of reading early on.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Halloween! 🎃📚

Every defendant has the right to hire an attorney at their own expense. In some cases, if a person cannot afford one and qualifies as indigent, the court can assign an attorney to represent them.

However, public defenders are not available in municipal court because those positions are part of the state system.

When someone receives a citation, it’s issued by an officer and sent to the court. The person cited then enters a plea: guilty, not guilty, or no contest.

If the plea is not guilty, a trial is scheduled. The judge listens to the facts, weighs the evidence, and makes a decision based on the law. Defendants always have the right to appeal a decision to the District Court in Lovington and have 15 days to do so.

Each step of the process is designed to make sure every person gets a fair hearing and every case is handled with integrity.

If a person pleads no contest, it means they are not admitting guilt but accept that there is enough evidence to be found guilty at trial. For court purposes, we treat a no contest plea the same as a guilty plea.

From there, the court may impose sentences such as fines, probation, community service, or payment agreements. Always with fairness and accountability in mind.

If approved, the bond would provide funding for several major projects that directly impact students, families, and staff, including:

2️⃣ A covered outdoor recreation area – offering shade and year-round access for physical activity and school events.
3️⃣ A new bus and maintenance facility – ensuring safer transportation and efficient upkeep of district vehicles.
4️⃣ A new district administration office – creating space for centralized support and community engagement.

📅 Election Day: November 4

Together, we can continue creating safe, innovative, and inspiring spaces for learning — from early childhood through graduation. ❤️

Did you know that all laws in New Mexico are passed by the state legislature, but it’s your local city council that reviews and adopts the ordinances that affect our community?

As your Municipal Judge, my responsibility is to ensure those ordinances are applied fairly and correctly. This includes traffic laws, property compliance, and even animal control ordinances. All designed to help keep our community safe and running smoothly.

Judges don’t make the laws, we uphold them and make sure they serve the people they’re meant to protect.

The work of a municipal judge goes far beyond the courtroom. It’s about fairness, education, and helping our community grow stronger through understanding and accountability.

Stay tuned, I’ll be sharing more information about how our court system works and how it serves the people of Eunice.

Tonight I attended the annual Past Masters Dinner at Eunice Lodge #67, a special event that honors those who’ve served as Master of the Lodge. I’ve had the privilege of serving twice, in 2000 and 2023. It’s always a meaningful evening spent with friends, fellow Masons, and the widows of past masters.

Our Lodge stays busy throughout the year hosting events that give back- from the annual pancake breakfast and first responders cookout, scholarships for seniors, support for 4H, FFA, and the library’s reading programs. We also lend a hand to local families facing tough times. We also provide a teacher and after school help for students with dyslexia, with our first class set to graduate in 2026.

I’m proud to be part of a group that continues to serve our community in so many ways.

Every week, I look forward to my visits with the kids at the Eunice Public Library. It’s always a joy to see their excitement for reading and learning.

This week was extra special because the Eunice Fire Department joined us! The kids loved getting to meet our local heroes and learn about fire safety.

It’s great to see our community coming together to support education and safety for the next generation!
