What if we could help heal the wound before it becomes a scar? 💗

For Terrence Killian, Relief Nursery’s Clinical Director of our Mental Health Program, early intervention rewrites stories and gives children and families the opportunity to heal before trauma becomes more deeply rooted.

After years of working with older children and adults experiencing the effects of trauma, Terrence found something deeply meaningful in Relief Nursery’s approach: the opportunity to reach children earlier and help change the trajectory.

At Relief Nursery, we look beyond the behavior. We understand that a child who is screaming, kicking, or struggling to connect may be communicating something they don’t yet have the words to express.

That’s why we surround families with both basic and specialized supports—from food, childcare, and home visits to mental health services, parent education, and peer support.

Because sometimes healing begins with something as simple as learning how to play together and feel safe.

Over 30 years ago, Ray Brown came to Relief Nursery as a parent working to reunite his family. The support and services he received helped him navigate that difficult chapter and build a path forward with his children.

After receiving services for two years, Ray joined the Relief Nursery team. Now, 31 years later, he’s still here—helping others find the support they need to make positive change in their lives.

Ray’s story is not so different from the stories of the parents he and his team work with today. Through our Accessing Success program, they help parents overcoming substance use disorder connect with services, navigate court systems, get into housing, while working to remove the barriers that can make it difficult to move forward.

As we celebrate 50 years of Relief Nursery, we’re grateful for the people who have been part of this story—and for the families who continue to inspire the work.

What an impressive duo! Sisters Vivian and Drew hosted a lemonade and golf ball sales stand this weekend, and are donating some of their proceeds to Relief Nursery.

Having done this several years in a row, these entrepreneurs and fundraisers have perfected the art of the neighborhood lemonade stand. Thank you for your support of the children we serve at Relief Nursery!
