“I was sleeping in a parking garage, in the rain, strung out,” shares R3 Program guest Jake.

“My mom suggested I come to the Eugene Mission,” he said. “It was a weird rock bottom, but I’d had enough.”

Jake had cycled through around 26 treatment centers and tried to get sober countless times.

What was different this time was his conviction that he was done. “I detoxed myself in the Rescue Shelter and then got down to work,” he said.

After more than a year at the Mission, Jake is now finishing his certificate to become a certified drug and alcohol counselor and has plans to continue his schooling to get a degree in psychology.

Jake got hooked on opiates at 16 when he was prescribed a drug by his doctor after a car crash. “Six months later I had a needle in my arm,” he shared. “It cost me everything.”

Jake is building a new life and that includes a deep relationship with his church where he plays bass in the band. “I knew God drew me to that church last Easter Sunday,” he said. “I’ve always had faith and believed, but since I got sober, God just showed me the way.”

He was also invited to play in the worship band at this year‘s Life Change graduation ceremony, which he described as an unbelievable experience.

Congrats Jake! We’re rooting for you. 🙌

A lot happens between the time a guest walks through our front door and the day they graduate to a new life.

We had the pleasure today of showing a group of people from our community exactly what that looks like.

Thank you to everyone who attended our “Path Off the Streets Tour”! We love sharing about the work that goes on here.

Reach out to [email protected] if you’d like to schedule a tour for yourself!

The Life Change crew spent Friday at the beautiful Lily of the Valley Ranch as a community service project. 🪏🪴

The ranch is a mixture of pasture, fields and gardens where the guests planted, removed non-native species from woodlands and even set up new fencing.

Community service is a big part of recovery. Spending time outdoors and tending to the land is a healing experience, the guests shared.

We’re so grateful for this ranch and the partnership we have with them! ❤️‍🩹

🎼 R3 Program guests enrolled in a guitar class, hosted at The John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts, enjoyed a special night out to watch their instructor Chico perform in a concert. 🎶

Thank you so much to the Shedd for hosting this class and for the tickets that enabled them to cheer on their instructor!

The class has been such a blessing to the guests. 💕

Men’s Life Change graduate Karlington has received a great gift – he said he now understands that each day is a blessing instead of something dark he must suffer through.

Karlington is now in Phase 5, or the after-care portion of the program. He’s worked hard to get to this place, but he said he’s holding on to the lessons he’s learned.

“I’ve lost so many things so many times,” he shared in a Life Change chapel service at the Eugene Mission. “Every day is a gift and I’m going to treat it that way.” 💕🙏

Life Change men getting dirty clearing out the old garden beds at the Eugene Mission.

Part of the program is learning how to work as a team and finding your own part in it, whether you’re pulling weeds or hauling a barrel to the compost bin.

It’s a tough job but they made quick work of it by working together. 💕

Molly and her son Bryson finally have a place of their own.

They just moved in, and Molly said they couldn’t be happier.

“Bryson said, ‘I want a dog and I want a place that has a pool.’ This place has a pool right in my front yard and we just went and adopted a rescue,” Molly said.

The pair were at the Eugene Mission for about a year and a half. Bryson was 4 when they moved into the Mothers and Children Center, which is part of the R3 Program.

“You have to put in the work to change. Sometimes you have to sit down and give God time to work in your life,” she said. “If you can’t follow the simple rules of the Mission, you can’t follow the rules of society. They have you do things there, and it becomes very clear why when you get out.”

Molly said her time here was life-changing. “It’s the most growth and change I’ve ever experienced,” she shared.

Molly said she was sitting on her couch, in her new home, reflecting on her success. “I said, ‘we did it son.’ And he said, ‘we did it Mom.’”

Happy Mother’s Day Molly! ❤️
