The UO Chapter of the NLG seeks to promote the goals of the National Lawyers Guild, which is dedicated to the need for basic change in the structure of our political and economic system. We seek to unite the lawyers, law students, legal workers and jailhouse lawyers to function as an effective force in the service of the people, to the end that human rights shall be regarded as more sacred than pr

operty interests. Our aim is to bring together all those who recognize the importance of safeguarding and extending the rights of workers, women, LGBTQ people, farmers, people with disabilities and people of color, upon whom the welfare of the entire nation depends; who seek actively to eliminate racism; who work to maintain and protect our civil rights and liberties in the face of persistent attacks upon them; and who look upon the law as an instrument for the protection of the people, rather than for their repression.

On Friday, the University of Oregon, NLG Chapter called for UO Law to take immediate and concrete action in addressing the white supemacist insurrection this past Wednesday at the U.S. Capitol. In posting the contents of this letter, sent to UO Law and UO Dean Michael Schill, we hope to inspire others law students and students in general to hold their universities responsible for the true education our country so dearly needs. We require more than thoughts and prayers, and we need to hold our educational institutions responsible for the harm they cause through their silence, doublespeak and commitment to the status quo.

Oregon Law students: You may now elect to go Pass/Fail for any or all of your classes without needing to plead your case (a ridiculous proposition ATM, if we do say so ourselves) and with no chance of your request being rejected, provided you complete a few steps (watch a video, fill out two forms).

NLG, other student groups and certain faculty members have fought for an all-encompassing pass/fail grading policy due to current crises since the summer.

We are so thankful to the faculty that led with true humanity in the push for this much needed change in policy, even if it doesn’t fully meet what we believe to be a more fair goal. We would have hoped for an announcement of this change in the policy that was more clear as to the fact that a change has occurred, but nonetheless, this is a great move for UO Law.

Now, happy elections to you all. Breathe, please.

Check out some of this great work shared by .campus.

While corporate media feeds us news about the $Ducks$, our anonymous Instagram heroes have delivered this unbelievable message from University of Oregon President Michael Schill.

Despite telling students they would be in-person for classes up until the very last minute, no doubt to guarantee the University kept its students on board, Schill now claims that the fact that these students came back to campus—and that COVID-19 is now rapidly spreading due to this decision—is none of his fault.

This Trumpian approach to leadership and the truth must end.

“What? The Feds?” This week on TOMA: Our comrade, UO law student Jeff MacNeilly, interviews Professor Adams-Schoen about the legal implications of the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests in PDX.

MacNeilly and UO Law Professor Adams-Schoen discuss some of cases brought against the local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies by protestors and other parties, some legal theories involved, and the what it means to be in the legal community in Oregon during these protests.

Tonight, please come and join us in showing solidarity with RECLAIM UO in its requests of the University of Oregon to:

°Disarm the UO PD;

°Divest from fossil fuels;

°Democratize the Board of Trustees.

UO should set the stage in Oregonian fashion for the new world we want and need to see and that is in alignment with the values it claims to honor and the students it claims to want to represent.

There will be (socially-distanced) dancing and tunes, speeches, pamphlets and more.

And, please, mask up! 7 PM at Johnson Hall.
