The Best Ingredient Was the Company
There was a lot happening around the table at Kids in the Kitchen: bananas being sliced, strawberries disappearing onto plates, yogurt and granola being piled into cups, and plenty of talking and laughing in between. The kids got to make their snacks their own way, but judging by the smiles, the best part may have simply been doing it all together. There were friends to talk to, new foods to try, and plenty of opportunities to proudly show off what they had made.
That’s part of what makes activities like Kids in the Kitchen so much fun. Children are learning useful skills without it ever feeling much like a lesson. They practice making choices, preparing food, following directions, sharing space, and helping one another, all while spending an afternoon with other kids from their community. Thank you to the OSU Extension Service and FoodHero.org for helping make these hands-on experiences possible, and to everyone who supports Cornerstone Community Housing and programs that give kids a place to learn, laugh, and just enjoy being kids.
