Elder abuse is something we deal with every day. And it's not always obvious, like bruises or missing money.

Undue influence impacts vulnerable adults. What does it look like? It can be as simple as a family member speaking for someone in a financial or medical appointment, or constantly speaking ill of someone the vulnerable adult loves.

Per Dr. Bennett Blum, an expert in the field of geriatric psychology, "The perpetrators of undue influence misuse a position of trust or power to benefit themselves - or causes they support - at the expense of their victims."

As longtime guardians and conservators we are ELATED to see this development! People facing guardianships and conservatorships SHOULD HAVE independent representation, whether they can afford it or not. A guardianship should be a collaboration, not a confrontation, between the person and the prospective guardian.

Oregon is enacting new legislation to help people facing the prospect of being put under guardianship or conservatorship, in an effort to protect the rights of some of the state’s most vulnerable citizens.

Principal Duties: - Manage client checkbooks for caseload of 60 to 100 clients, based on budgets set by the fiduciary or case manager, utilizing proprietary software (Estate Management Software by SEM Applications, Inc.), including:

- Process client payables: ensure that all bills get paid on time, every time.*
- Process client income and receipts*
- Reconcile checkbooks monthly; manage bank statements and records - Assist in creating a budget for every client. *
- Monitor budget performance. Alert the fiduciary as needed. *
- Set up recurring payments, ticklers for periodic payments (e.g.taxes, insurance)*
- Assist with documentation for health insurance and tax returns.*
- Assist and/or prepare financial reports (in Excel) for annual accounting reports.*
- Assist with monthly invoice-preparation and billing as assigned. *
- Enter payments to case invoices and perform other accounts-receivable tasks.*
- Provide back-up tech support for the team with respect to office machines, computers, and phone systems. Provide backup general office support when needed.

- Assist with documentation of systems, processes, and policies related to client money management functions.

- Assist the Business Manager with internal financial and business operations, as assigned, including client trust account, company credit card, costs advanced, and bank deposits.

- Perform document filing (paper and electronic) for banking and bill-pay records.

- Other duties related to client bookkeeping and company receivables accounts

Wages: $19.00 to $21.50 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Paid Leave: PTO accrues at 1.3 hours per 40 hours worked to start; part time is pro-rated. 7 holidays per year are paid in proportion to the part-time or full-time rating. See personnel manual.

Certification: Maintain Notary Public certification.
